A tale of two cities and codes last night - Melbourne AFL 88,000 at the G and the NRL(sic) only 22,000 at the SFS for two Sydney teams.

It must be galling for the Sydney media led by the Daily Tele that with all their over the top relentless promotion of RL it cannot pull a decent crowd in its heartland.

Comparison with NRL is irrelevant. AFL attracts vastly greater attendance. We all know that. It is just stating fact.

Great attendance though in truth the circumstances were almost tailor made to maximise attendance.....and did.

Sorry to disagree but the way the Sydney media and thugby supporters try to boost their "sport"? and put the AFL down needs to be shown as the con that it really is.

BTW facts are important and should be reinforced at all times when dealing with liars like the NRL and its rabid supporters..

Great crowd.

As a neutral observer I really enjoyed last night. Collingwood are just fantastic to watch at the moment but Carlton definitely showed they were somewhat up to it. My respect for them as a side this season did increase even though they lost by 5 goals, which must mean they did at least fairly well.

Loved how the game was hard running with a lot of free-flowing play and goals. Just watching Collingwood adapt to that so easily makes me wonder who can beat them this year.

Nice number but the crowd was so quiet and dull for 88k it was like a library. Most boring 88k I've ever heard... Imagine you showed that to someone who never seen AFL and watches EPL every week and said there was 88k people there lol

I wonder how the tv ratings went, i swear i could have smashed my TV a few times tonight with channel 7's sh*thouse coverage/ camera views 10 kilometres away/ megawall crap/ lets show the crowd while the game goes on. Footy coverage was better 10 years ago.
Although their crappy camera views probably wont impact the ratings.

Agreed:mad: What's with that camera shot from the International Space Station? The players look like a damn ant farm???

Gee, St Kilda people are just miserable sods. Every post by them is a whinge or whin?

St Kilda = perennial underachievers

There are plenty of dull enough EPL games and EG Arsenal are notorious for a morgue like athmosphere. Roy Keane the former captain of manchester United ranted about the "prawn sandwich eaters" at manchester due to the lack of athmosphere. Big, really big, attendances inevitably mean a lot of half hearted bandwagoners. Thousands of the Carlton "away" contingent at that game won't be at another "away" game all year. You can't rely on them to create an athmosphere.

Yet we have managed to have the second highest average attendance over the last 3-4 years, quality comment that one

2 games to go for all those thousands of 3gamers now.

Which two will it be?

Collingwood Vs Geelong (Round 22)?

Collingwood Vs Hawthorn (Round 15)?

OR

Collingwood Vs St Kilda (GF Replay)??????????

Thats weird coming from a Sains supporter. You guys get NRL style attendance figures.

I agree with this.

There'll be more atmosphere next Saturday afternoon at the G when Carlton take on Essendon with 10-15K less (more than likely).

To put it into a bit of perspective it certainly helps that you're guaranteed to play Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond twice each year...

Certainly wouldn't want to waste it on Coll v Essenscum :D:D:D:D

Rich v Coll on friday night should push 80k if the weather is ok..

Think that will depend upon your effort and result tonight.

If you fall in a heap and lose by 5-10goals neutrals will not be interested in turning up to see Collingwood flog you.

Win or even lose respectfully perhaps you might go close.

I'd be guessing most neutrals might be more interested in the Saturday afternoon game though.

Very rare these days to have a 2.10pm Saturday afternoon game at the G.

Same.
I couldn't make it to the 'G last night, but really, channel 7's camera angles are a disgrace, and we're going to have to put up with there putrid coverage after the next TV deal goes through.

Great crowd though!
