That’s a massive loss. Very glad we got Birch across for the leadership but not sure who brings the smart attacking nous and skills in combination with the defensive strength to try to fill the hole left over this period.

Lucky our depth is as good as it is.

To find comfort, wondering if having Kearney’s nous with the coaching team might prove to be one of those season defining moments …

Six weeks means she won't return until the second week of finals. Hopefully we can maintain our position on top on the table and then win first week of the finals, and then she should be cherry ripe for the Prelim.

Right. That does it. That's the last time I trust a medical opinion from ferball.

Probably ends her chance of reaching 100 games as well, she is currently on 80 and with 5 games plus 3 finals would have finished the season on 88, and with next season increasing to 12 games she was a very good chance, now she would need to play on beyond 2025.

Don't let her know you have her retired after next year, I reckon she'll want a couple of 1 year deals after this contract runs out.

Revealed at the premiership celebration today that during her rehab work after our qualifying final, she actually "did her calf" too. She attributed her ability to get up for the Prelim and Grand Final to white line fever, and being 'fresh'.

What a gun.

Couldn’t believe when I heard that, and what an amazing turnaround. I think we win comfortably with Shannon, but Kearney being part of it added so much in every way.

Kearney is the heart and soul of this team. Wouldn't have felt the same without her. <3

Emma is a true shinboner, as well as being a champion player, at 35 after what she did this year with injuries she has at least two good years left if she wanted to keep going, as we've seen with the men over the years when you start to get into the mid 30s and everything is fine, "IT" can come very quickly, whether it be form/injuries or "the body has had enough", what a player she is, so much to teach others and help that she is a special asset to our great club.

for her to come out and just absolutely take the piss the way she did after fighting through those injuries is a testament not just to her toughness and perseverance but also what a ridiculously good footballer she is. I started to feel like it was in the bag after watching her just step around opponents over and over and make it look easy, no doubt it made her teammates more confident too.

this

Kearney as an individual and the team as a whole were just in complete command, at a different level for intent, class, contest and pace

Is it true that Kearn's did a calf during her hammy rehab ?
I thought she said after the QF she hurt her calf. So it was a close run thing.

She's like Boomer. Her experience and ability to read the game (because of that experience as much as anything) means she is half a second ahead of her opposition when deciding how to set up ahead of the opposition ball movement. It was so noticeable in the GF.
