Player Watch #9: Trent Cotchin is an obscenely good 3 x Premiership Captain, Victorian Captain & Brownlow Medalist

December 2013 and only 101 posts, yeah we got a real life dumb arse.

Come on Joel
I just prefer to think the best of people.

Honestly just answered his question because i love talking about our skipper. I could talk about him all day.

Hawthorn has no standout players so that's not a hard decision.
What sort of player was he like after 2012? Was he still good or more so frustrating because you knew he had potential.
If he wasn't good in those years opposition coaches wouldn't have tagged him.

Will win the gary ayres medal for best player in finals baring a disaster on saturday. Decent players don't do that is very good just didnt have support around him until this season.

Has dusty, who is leading to contend with.

I'm not trolling so calm down please. I just never knew cotchin was so young when he won his Brownlow and am curious as to why he hasn't been talked as a superstar of the competition like other Brownlow medallists. That's why like I thought he was a solid player and not a superstar.

I'm not sure he will. I reckon he's a better chance at the norm smith if we win. I reckon Dusty will take out the gary ayres award.

Both. Has always been a good player but he wasn't reaching the level he was playing at in 2012 so it was frustrating.

He's disgustingly underrated. Stop reading BigFooty and watch him play.

Nah trent was miles bog in the prelim and 2nd or third in the qual

Dusty only really played a qtr in the qual and was quiet in the prelim.

Both a huge chance to take out the norm if we win on sat

Honestly he regressed significantly, to the point where he was an average plodder. Most likely reasons are a knee injury in 2013 which seriously impacted his speed, kicking and evasiveness and he seems to be only properly recovering now, a gameplan which put him in a role which any shit kicker could do and which basically ignored his strengths, and the pressure of being the leader of a club which was stagnating and under immense pressure

Sorry thats my fault
All good. I'll settle for this. Opposition coaches now having to worry about more than just Cotchin and the new gameplan has allowed a freedom to cotchin's game that he hasn't had since 2012.

Basically this, and what Joelsyt has said.
2012, Cotch was awesome. Had me really excited about our future. Then for the last few years he has appeared a shadow of his former self.
Trent has been on record talking about how he tried to be someone he wasn't with the captaincy but has now come to terms with just being himself. He has again been awesome this year, arguably as good as 2012 but overshadowed by the Dusty phenomenon.

20 touches, 12 score involvements and 3 goals is quiet?

God damn

I just realised Trent Cotchin is only a year older than Dusty. He was so young when he won his Brownlow, what happened to him? He is a decent player but not that great, how good was he in his Brownlow year?
Had his Brownlow stolen, lost faith in the AFL. Finally got it returned to him and back to career best.

Actual reasons:
  • He injured his knee against Fremantle in 2013 which put him back a lot.
  • We lost players that allowed him to play to his natural talent (Tuck, Jackson, Foley).
  • Our gamestyle changed which forced him to play a different way.

He's now peak fitness, with a lot more support around him and playing to his strengths.
