Shake down the thunder
Stop the Presses! This is an unfolding story and updates should be provided later this morning.
Unlike the Qurdoch owned mastheads such as WIGMEDIA, the Toga Times is a small and wholly independent news outlet. All our print runs are carefully curated (hehe) and with finances slight we are loathe to stop the presses and replace a print run.
However early on Thursday morning, Vic Bias Time, an extraordinary breaking story came to our attention.
As some ITK folk are aware, a potential star recruit made known their intent to join the Sweet FA. kenneyswarriors did this via the appropriate vehicle, the In-Season sign on thread for new or returning players. The young star evinced interest in joining the Sweet FA and identified the Bombers As their preferred team. KlTheir post was timed at 3.46pm on Sunday. All good.
There is always a 24 hour holding period where counter offers from rival Clubs can be made and assessed by the recruit. Usually the recruit confirms with the Club they originally nominated their final preference and ticketyboo they are signed.
At any event due process does not seem to have been followed as Bombers Skipperooney, BLUEALLTHRU made a rushed announcement on Monday at 3.55pm in the Squad Submissions thread that the star recruit was signed on. This seems ahead of confirmation by said star recruit.
No doubt the star recruit was besieged with counter offers and considered these with great depth. On Wednesday the recruit resubmitted the required form, nominating the Ophidian Old Boys as their preferred Club. Good luck to player and Club.
This left the Bombers in an embarrassing position. Two days after making a fuss with the initial Squad change, on Wednesday they announced said star recruit was delisted. Whether the star recruit was legitimately in their Squad in the first place is obviously open to question. If not what was a delisting all about?
Urgent comment is being sought from BLUEALLTHRU on the following questions.
1. Was the star recruit’s confirmation sought ahead of Monday’s changes to the Bombers’ Squad List? Why the unseemly rush to make the change?
2. If not, why not?
3. Do the Bombers consider they have breached the Rules covering In-Season recruiting by listing an inappropriate change to their Squad.
Again, the Toga Times consider neither the recruit nor the OOB have done anything inappropriate.
