A worrying stat on North

First innings average - 64 (awesome)
Second innings average - 17 (wtf?)

Aside from his great knock at Edgbaston his next highest second innings score is just 10.

I hope he corrects this over time but so far he's capitulated a number of times already in the second innings when the game's on the line. Early days still, and I'm not questioning his place in the side for a minute, but he's gotta start delivering more often when the going gets tough.

I looked up his stats the other day and he has only made two scores between 20 and 70 (one of them being 68 he made in this test). Needs to be more consistent. Questions will be asked by the media if he continues along like this, but i doubt whether the selectors will ask these same questions.

I would be more worried if the big scores were coming when it didn't count.

6 times in with the score below 150 and our number 6 has yet to make it to double figures.

imo he won't last, his 1 from 26 when under pressure the other day was very telling.

our last 6 was symonds whom had the ability to take the game away from the opposition under pressure.

i prefer a more attacking 6, perhaps watson or even cosgrove. we'll see.

I didn't say he always performed when it counts. I said that most of his good scores have been important in the context of the game they were scored in. Different thing.

Some more consistency would certainly be nice, but I'm not going to do a Chicken Little at this point over a guy who is doing a pretty decent job. There's multiple batsmen I'd consider dropping before him.

Symonds was even worse under pressure than North

the problem with North is he is hugely hit or miss, he just can't get a decent start most of the time. i reckon his time is coming if he keeps failing on such a regular basis.

the stat about failures with the score sub 200 is very telling, you need someone can hold up a collapse at no6, not someone who contributes to it.

It definitely is worrying, we have collapsed badly in the past year quite a few times. The big drawing point for me with North was his ability to stop the collapses but as it is, we are still collapsing. Hopefully he can correct this stat against Pakistan, as after Hussey he would be the next one with the presure on.

In the selectors minds North would be the first to be dropped
