Davey would be the perfect complement to our mid-field draft picks adding run, flair and goal kicking ability to our defensive mid-field.

Having Davey, Harvey, Urquhart, Wells and Smith all working through the middle means speed, class and excellent skills.

The Corey Jones swap would be ideal and would work really well for both sides...just a matter of convincing Melbourne, oh and North for that matter.

Adding Davey to the midfield would continue our trend of recruiting EITHER slow footed in-and-under mids OR light bodied quick mids.

SURELY watching teams still in the finals who have NEITHER of this body type running through their midfield suggests we ought to look elsewhere?

Our midfield needs mid paced strong bodied players with football smarts. Davey lacks the inside toughness which Sydney used to swat us out of finals. I'd take him for a trade of a player or two, maybe CJ, but NOT for draft picks.

Just because he's talented doesn't mean he meets any of our primary needs. In fact, with Thomas, Campbell, Wells and Ross I'd say we've got that player type sown up for the most part.

Who would we give up for Aaron that they would be interested in?

Some options I suppose would be Jones, Swallow, Brown and possibly one of our younger players they may rate (eg Lower) It might take a combination of the above.

Jones is the only one that I would part ways with (apart from Brown). Swallow and Lower contribute to areas that we lack, ie. inside mid/HF tag/general utility.

they contribute to what exactly? How many senior games have these guys played this year? Jones when fully fit, is in our top 5 players at the club. I would not swap jones for davey.

Yep, and then imagine a resting forwardline of Campbell, Thomas, Davey and even Boomer. Phoar, that'd be one electric forwardline!!

We'd look about ten times faster then we do now with that kind of line up!

Colour me unconvinced (which is an off-white beige-ish colour). :D

To me this trade would help us beat lower ranked teams by a larger margin, but would still render our midfield ill-equipped to cope with the stronger larger-bodied midfield of Hawkthorn and Geelong.

Aside from that Davey is more of a HFF than a midfielder, so really aren't we just trading a 'third tall' HFF for a 'quick crumbing' HFF?

I'd rather focus on pure midfielders thanks, be it Dal Santo, Brent Reilly (though I have serious doubts about him) or some pimple faced draftee who's draft report includes the words 'pure midfielder', 'strong body' and 'good foot skills' and not the words 'tendancy to panic', 'slow', or 'has played mostly on a HBF but could run through the midfield with some development'.

Well if it'd help us get over teams we should beat like Freo and Essendon, and deliver us some consistency for once, then consider me sold!

sides like port adelaide killed us with pace this year and a bloke like davey can help in a way that allows us to get some pace into the side and get some good pace in 2 the squad.

Steele. Sidebottom.

Leg speed is one of the most over-rated talents in footy IMO - as long as you aren't Adam 'one speed' Simpson slow. Teams that look quick usually look that way because they get their hands on the ball first, make good quick decisions and then get the ball off to a player in better position quickly and accurately. Teams that do this move the ball quickly, whether the players themselves move quickly is a moot point, mostly.

We need to recruit more for decision making and assured hand and foot skills than leg speed. Leg speed is fools gold mostly.

I do think though that you do need a couple of lightening players on your list to break up play every now and then though. I think we've probably got enough of them now though with Urquhart, Harding, Ross, Campbell & Wells.

If I was to trade CJ (and I'm not convinced) it wouldn't be for Davey, it'd be for a 'pure' midfielder.

yes we should get Davey , not so sure Jones would be tickled pink by the thought of playing for the Dees though.?? - i can still remember our B&F and Geoff Walsh mouthing" oh we're going to draft this youngster for sure".... but then we must of forgot , oh well happens i suppose.
Him & Wells are great mates , so that might inspire them both to greater heights.

I don't really want Davey, he is a one-dimensional player. We might as well go down to the track and recruit sprinters if the only thing we care about is being quick.

Teams figured him out years ago.

Why do all the North Melbourne Fans think that Davey is light?. He was when he was 20 but hes had 4 pre-season now and is now very strong. Also hes not up for trade unless you want to give that first rounder you have up or maybe Hansen or Josh Smith up
