#5 Blake Coleman (Brisbane Lions Academy)
Lively to say the least. He is one of those players you would come to the football to see. Laid a terrific couple of tackles to set the tone early in the game, with his second being a big run-down tackle and win a free straight in front of goal. He converted that and continued to look dangerous, taking a mark outside 50 but his delivery inside was a scrubber kick to the pocket. It was one of his only poor kicks going inside, because he seemed to hit-up targets well throughout, setting up Braeden Campbell for a goal with the one-two at half-forward and produced a very nice kick into Reef McInnes inside 50 in the third term. He was able to win the ball at a stoppage in the midfield to show his midfield potential, then finished the game on a high note by selling candy to Wil Parker in the goalsquare and booting it from point blank range.

From what I've heard - don't be at all surprised if this kid ends up Top 25 come 2020 Draft.

Blake's very talented, but I think it's way too early to put him up as a first or second round draft candidate.

Positionally Blake probably doesn't have the flexibility of his brother as I've never seen him play behind the ball.

Let's see how he goes in the Academy Series first, and then presumably for the Allies, most drafts have a heap of good small forwards/HFF's.

VERY true. Time will tell as always.

Has Kobe Tozer been officially placed on our overage list (much like Coleman this year)?

I think we have seen the beginnings of a trend toward clubs bidding for our higher ranked academy prospects. If he is better than his brother at the same age, as some have suggested, then a second round bid is certainly not out of the question, possibly earlier. Whether that is his true ranking is another matter.

Have heard Kobe, Bruce Reville and Tom Wischnat are back as overagers. Nothing official though. Grain of salt and all that.

Reville has been at a couple of training sessions I’ve been to. Wasn’t there yesterday though from what I saw.

There were 6 academy kids there yesterday. I don’t know who the 6th player is. He’s mid size as well.

I wouldn’t know Tozer or Wischnat in person, so can’t say if he’s been at training or not.

A couple of the draft watchers have early 2020 top 30/40/50 lists up. Both Carter Michael and Saxon Crozier get a mention. I’m assuming based mostly on the U17 futures games.

Unless we move a few players from the senior list to the rookie list again next year, we might possibly have a few spots available on the rookie list next year.

Is Wischnat the stocky medium forward with a pony tail who despite his height played a bit like a key forward in the U18's? Had at least one decent game as I recall.

That's the one; very solid for his age, not the tallest.

On Blake, I reckon he is a 2nd round pick at this stage on potential if not anything else. He is absolute magic with ball in hand.

This years draft.

Caleb Serong, who is a Ben Ainsworth type small forward/mid, went pick 8. At NAB league level played more mid, but at AFL level will start his career as a small forward.

Liam Henry, Freo nga small forward, who can play on a wing, went pick 9.

Kysaiah Pickett, pure (really) small forward went pick 12.

Cody Weightman, who is a Jamie Elliot type small forward went pick 15.

The next small forward to go was Jack Mahony at pick 34, who is a Jack Higgins type small forward. Has a really high footy IQ, is a good kick, but is medium paced at best.

Keidean Coleman went at pick 37. Which was eight picks before the end of the second round. Without any National exposure this year.

If Blake Coleman is one of the better small forwards at next year’s U18 Championships, I believe it would be pretty reasonable to believe he possibly goes in the second round.

The Allies squad might be stacked for small forwards though. And there’s been a little talk this might be the most competitive Allies squad we’ll have seen yet.

Just shows you how valuable small forwards are in today’s game.

Apologies if this is not the right place for this, but anyone heard about the rumour that Irish GAA player Cathal McShane, from county Tyrone is about to be offered a rookie contract?
