He'll never recapture his 2008 form but he's still a great player. I Wish we had him this year.
Who's spot does he take? Sewell/Whitecross in the team we currently have named?

If we get him that means we have to delist 4 players yes?

His form/stats this year is pretty good, but I wonder how long he can hold it ...

Burgoyne & Lake came to us with knee problems.

They haven't reached the standards they had at their previous clubs but they've still be bloody good for us.

Cooney turns 28 this year. I'm sure we'd be able to manage him well enough to get a good couple of years out of him like Burgoyne.

Cooney's a gun. Would easily be in our best 18. He can play alongside Sewell/Whitey.

Not necessarily.

Goo & Ossie might retire at the end of the year. We generally make 6-10 changes to our list every year.

If we had to part ways with a Suckling/Ellis type in order to land Cooney, I'd be all for it.

Ch10 reporting that we are chasing him.

Yes, we'll be "chasing" him until the Bulldogs offer him a better contract.

And then he'll conveniently forget his old mate, Lake!

I would definitely look at Cooney. Almost the most suitable of who is available in the list turnover period. He still has a good burst of speed, good skills, and can rotate through half back, midfield and wing. A great fit for the way we play, and it would perfect for him as we wouldn't demand as much from him as the Bulldogs side currently requires, and gives him an opportunity to be apart of a side who has higher short term ambitions than the Western Bulldogs.

Sure we'd prefer a 23 year future A grade starting midfield player, but its not (just) about who we want, its about who is available, who we can afford, and who we don't have to give up too much to trade for. No one is going to give us a superstar young mid for a late first rounder and an average starting 22 player, or someone in the last couple of years of their career. Its unrealistic.

If we really are going after Cooney, the issue is he is a restricted free agent, so the Bulldogs would probably try to match our offer to get some compensation from us. Although the AFL compensation might be better than what we would offer the Bulldogs in this case, given he is so far up the pecking order on the Bulldogs list.

I love it. Adds the cooooooooo to the Breuuuuust chant, and he's also a Brownlow medalist so we all know he can play.

So 2 news stories in a week linking us with cooney and adams!

If this is true I fear the club knows buddy is going otherwise there is no way we could lure cooney and would not have the trade currency to get adams!

Even if the Cooney & Adams rumours aren't true, it would be a concern if we weren't planning for life without Buddy, even if the club thinks he'll stay.

yeah I wonder who we are really after!!

How much would a guy like Cooney be worth at this stage of his career?

Good question.
Surely you would give up some to play in a team that wins.
