I dunno. There does seem to be a truckload of hate on here for him. Think about this. Really think. What sniping or diving has he done on the field that some of our greatest players haven't done? After that you're left with what you think of him off the field. A bloke who is proud of his heritage. He speaks out about racism and is automatically called a whinger. He celebrates a goal with an AAS dance and everyone shits themselves. If you're seriously offended by any of this you probably need to have a look at yourself.

My beef is with the generalisation of Hawks fans being racist by AA president Robbo.. Also like many other fans have stated I reserve the right to not like or even applaud certain opposition players 'cause of the way they carry themselves or play the game..ie: Selwood Johnson, Ballantyne or either Shaw brother..but because Goodes is indigenous its racist...FFS..I was born in Sri Lanka and don't have a racist bone in my body..so don't preach to me about fighting for his people and all this shit...Burgoyne does it, but without the SENSATIONALISM...

"all this shit" Burgoyne does a lot of good work and it goes unnoticed. Goodes does the same and draws media attention. Try to be honest about why you hate him. The fact that racism is even being discussed in regards to footy is down to him.

For mine, the tripping and sliding upset people most for the fact that he got away with it so often, it wasn't always our players either... in the 2 years prior to Gibson he went to the tribunal 4 times and only received a week off and had tripped or slid into 4 Hawthorn players within the same period which 2 never even went to the tribunal. We've all heard the AFL protected species line before. The AFL ambassodor money he gets paid outside of the salary cap and the knowledge that we tried to and got rejected on for a couple our indigenous players. That all fuels the perception he's on the AFL payroll, how we lost the advantage to the extra days break for the 2012 gf. Maybe booing Goodes for some is booing the AFL at the same time..

The staging for frees issue has had plenty of discussion, even Robbo has an article out with dislikes and questions Goodes on his sliding. Shane Warne questioned his character and worse too which I won't worry about bring up again. For others maybe the 13 year old girl thing contributes to it as well.

Take your pick, some of these actions, perceptions and values contradict each other pretty badly too... risking serious injury to others & cheating for free kicks whilst taking the moral high ground on human rights issues doesn't go down all that easily if you're feeling like the victim for other things.

Other ppl have pointed out too how we used to boo Lloyd constantly and other players at Geelong as a few examples of which was never made an issue, are people being more sensitive about this than we would be with a different player? At the end of the day I think ppl in general are tired of it all really and don't like being told who they can and can't boo, the head line fatigue might also explain in part the reaction to the latest incident with some just wanting to enjoy the football without the other stuff. All supporters have had a pretty ordinary time in recent years with all the ASADA talk dominating news and now all this stuff has blown up which should never have come this far. The media has a fair bit to blame in all this too for the tabloid nature of some of the stuff, I can't watch 360 anymore it's that bad. A few in the media have gotten so lazy and used to feeding of the negativity and just want to sensationalise everything for easy headlines, attention seeking or settling old scores.

Sure, the media his inflamed it. He's also not exactly been a saint on the field. It still doesn't explain the vitriol he cops. Rapists, wifebeaters, drug cheats cop less heat than he does. But it's not race. So what is it?

This has nothing to do with racism and I'm offended to be associated with these accusations.

But on BigFooty, it's perfectly ok to falsely accuse others of being racist. Who cares if it's defamatory and a criminal offense, they're on the correct side of social justice!

I'd be careful about defending yourself from said accusations though. You might get away with it here on the Hawks board, but you'll get infracted on the main board.

I don't think people are "offended" by those things - I would hope people in principle actually respect/admire his position. Everyone just wants to leap to extremes though for some reason with this shit - racist, offended etc...

So you feel you have a right to question my honesty do you.. have you got blinkers on or did you just read what you wanted to out of my comments...I don't like ADAM GOODES THE FOOTBALLER...like the other footballers I mentioned..not because of the colour of his skin, the same colour as Michael O'loughlin the champion footballer I admired, but the way he plays the game..and if you think Goodes does what he does to go unnoticed and not draw media attention YOU need to have a good look at yourself..Burgoyne does not seek the attention but has the same sentiments..as for 'all this shit' everytime someone voices their opinion of him as a FOOTBALLER..out comes the old racism..he is proud of his heritage and he is doing it for his people..good excellent..there is no place for racism in any way ,shape or form..but why am I justifying myself to you...??..because you have done the same thing as Robbo, you made me feel like I had to..oh remember Nicky Winmar's gesture all those years ago at Victoria park..thats how you make a statement not sensationalise it...and if you think racism in footy is being discussed beacause of Goodes...where were you after that Winmar incident or the Long/Monkhorst incident...??.I grew up in the Prahran Housing commission and played for the Two Blues in the VFL for 6 seasons..pretty tough gig when you are Sri Lankan..but there were no racists then..yeah right...Don't ask me 'to be honest about why I don't like him'..RACISM ITS NOT

Good Call........Sensationalism at its best........
Top comments Yabs...
You're my sort of bloke

I for one would not be one bit surprised to see, before this year is out, Adam Goodes standing in front of the opposition cheer squad during a game and lifting his jumper up and pointing at his skin......

We don't really have opportunity to let rip at rapists, wife beaters etc. when collingwood crowd were doing it to Milne they got ejected (and to be fair his case was still before the courts). The afl media cried when west coast did it to Jobe.

If I was a journalist, I could do an article this morning about how Adelaide fans were booing Ballantyne because he is SHORT. Disgraceful behavour.......

#standbymidgetfootballers

As a short person , I just want people to realise Ballantyne isn't representative of short people everywhere.
Some might say he has occasionally set back our cause. I do however acknowledge his footballing prowess although I'm more partial to Lindsay Thomas myself who is too tall to be short.

Stop being ridiculous....The issue is that the AFL/Media have set him up as their 'SACRED COW' & spokesperson for all things indigenous...Those of us who use our own eyes are fully cognizant of the fact that because of this favoritism, a double standard is enacted & a 'blind-eye' turned when-ever he over-steps the line on the football field.

No one other than card-carrying members buy into the AFL/Media BS spin any longer with regards 'Adam Goodes Inc'....The entire situation has become so farcical & transparent, whereby anyone who questions the blatantly obvious 'double standard' is labelled a racist...What an insult to any thinking adults intelligence.

People don't hate Adam Goodes, they just see him as representative of AFL double-standards & hypocrisy....Which they do hate!

Get ready for yet another week of BS media spin Via the AFL incorporated machine....Goodes the ground-breaker....Goodes the agenda maker....Goodes takes back what is rightfully his in standing up for his people!

I'M GONNA be ******* sick to the stomach by MONDAY!

Get ready for the biggest shock, when, in the near future, AG is named as Gil's replacement!

If it's true you boo Goodes to make a point about AFL double standards, it's fair to say your point is being lost in translation.

NO....That is entirely due to the AFL inspired media-spin...Which the public can now see thru....The booing will only get worse, the more they continue to insist on towing this line & insulting our senses/intelligence.

Doggies fans were booing Ryan Griffen yesterday.
According to Caro and Robbo, all Dogs fans must be racist. They booed someone because they questioned his integrity, but of course those two fine journalists can tell it was all racially motivated. Looking forward to the scathing accusations this week...

I didnt mind goodes war dance as its called. On the sunday footy show the footage shows after the dance he continues towards the crowd and it looks like he waves, and a few of the crowd start smiling.

Not too many of the commentators seeking mileage out of this menioned that point. Good humour from where Im sitting.

Im still pissed at being accused of racist booing, but pointedly not by goodes himself

Ballantyne has a square head, but don't call him box head

Caro implies that anyone who dislikes his AOTY appointment is racists...what about the scores of Indigenous ppl that disapproved of it??

She also states that Goodsey didn't choose to have the award bestowed upon him. Well, I can't imagine that each recipient isn't asked days/weeks beforehand. I think he did choose.

I thought it was bizzare that he was awarded it but I thought it was worse when Ita Buttfkk was awarded it prior to Goodes. I must hate white ppl too.
