Wells does not want the job full time anymore. He is only back at Geelong in a much reduced role .
Works part time at Cotton On?

That's not how a successful operation runs though.

If someone like a CEO has lost faith in the list management / recruiting decisions, their job is not to come in over the top and overrule the decisions, as has been claimed. Rather, it is to sack the GM in that position and get someone better through the door.

I find it concerning that Vozzo is apparently taking control of these calls now - as has been stated on here and by Caro. That's not how things would be run at better clubs and can't end well in my view. It also means we're effectively having 1 person take on several roles, when a better club would have a fully functioning list manager and CEO.
It's all highly irregular isn't it if what is reported is true.

So don’t even try?

People change their minds.
Money talks.
The challenge of resurrecting one of the biggest game’s clubs would at least have his ear.

9 years ago Paul Roos initially said he had no interest in coming to Melbourne to change the culture of the club.
He is in semi retirement. He actually did leave but the Cats talked him into a lesser role.
I am not waving money at a bloke who is winding down.

If you are chasing someone then you are chasing Taylor from Melbourne.

Do people really believe keeping / trading Daniher would have been a decision made solely by Dodoro when the entire team had literally been built around Daniher being a generational forward talent?

Trading Daniher represented a massive change of direction for the trajectory of the club and list position - one that arguably should have been taken years prior to that point.

What the club did in the 2017 and 2018 off-season was based around Daniher kicking 65 goals in 2017 as a 23 year old and looking for all money like he'd be the best forward in the game for the next 5 years.

The club should have been smarter in 2018 when Daniher had been down with injury for most of the season and not pursued Shiel, and then by 2019 when he had missed pretty much the entire season again it should have been very clear that they needed to make a change in plans away from Daniher.
Yep plus having the Daniher name was another factor if it was Joe smith we probably let him go. But we were hoping at the end of 19 that if daniher could get his body right he’d return to being the dominate forward we saw in 2017, it just didn’t turn out that way. Would be like Carlton trading Curnow at the end of 2021 after a couple written off seasons, they got lucky we didn’t.

Yeah, but that's what I thought so it could be crazy.

Would be a massive offer needed to get a gun recruiter with a club like us - and then there are the salary caps. They know our development is ordinary (too many guys go backward after their first year), there is a downhill ski culture quickly engrained and in general we are a basket case so they might look ordinary themselves pretty quick. Better the devil you know.

Paul Roos was in ‘semi retirement’ too before money and the challenge of a floundering Melbourne changed his mind.

Jason Taylor? Yeah fine then go for him although remains to be seen whether he has recruited a multi-flag winning super team.

The essential point here I think we can all agree on is to get someone better!

Development is getting some decent dollars thrown at it now. Unlike previous years .

We are just a boys club where you join to have fun and hang out with the lads - trying to work out if we are (a) st Kilda pre Ross-the-boss (ie, the “party club”), or (b) the cricket team pre-Captain Grumpy (wish we had our own version of him)

Who said I want keep dodoro there, nothing to do with that 🤣

If we are going to poach a recruiter / list manager from another club id rather it be one with a few miles left on the clock.

Mate if you’re MO is mounting a case against Stephen Wells - 4th flag less than 12 months ago. Count them 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Think a little harder before you post.

We need a captain Grumpy for each line!

Maybe you should. We are not saying Wells is no good. He has spent 40 years in footy . He is not looking to take his n a big project. It has nothing to do with anything but wanting someone committed for the long haul . Roos was different. Younger to start with .
