i'll kinda miss him, i mean, he seamed like a genuinely nice, enthusiastic bloke that believed in his players.
he provided a lot of joy, jackets, some of the best names as well, pears, gumby, dempsey, winderlich, fantasia etc...
i blame our coaches and development, its team selection that decided not to play massimo for example.
is he in charge of our strength, fitness and development or positioning players on the ground. Culture etc.
who am i going to refer to as "jackets" now?!

I’m really not sure if this is a pisstake.

No it's not.

He's been the scapegoat for our mismanagement of players and our losing culture.

Sure he's had holes in squads he's built. But almost all of them were better than how they performed on field.

Like I said almost every player who left, was a better player elsewhere.

So what does that say about our development and player management?

And that's just the ones that have left. What about the ones that stayed? Fair to say they would have performed better elsewhere too.

He’s been the cause of our losing culture, not the scapegoat.

Baring Houli who never really got a shot at essendon, the players who left and went on to win AAs were already good before they left. Most of them have not improved since leaving either: Gumby, monfries, fantasia, Carlisle, Francis, colyer, melksham, etc. they were all the same or worse for their new clubs. Players like Saad, Ryder, Daniher, were already good before they left.

Your argument also completely ignores the players who have come to us and improved! Players like Ben McKay, Caldwell improved, and then wright, smith, etc went on to win B&Fs with us.

That may simply mean mediocre players elsewhere come to Essendon and look like superstars compared to the existing list

Almost all of those players you mentioned were/have been better after they left.
A couple have improved when coming to us, but most stalled.

I'd also like someone to show me a list he created that was no good.

Ryder AA, Hibberd AA, Houli, Saad, D'Ambrosio, Daniher, Melksham, Ted Richards all better after leaving. Pretty sure I've missed several others.
Ryder, hibberd, saad, and Daniher were already guns before they left. That’s why so many supporters were gutted when they left. Houli, D’ambrosio, and Richard’s improved - although d’ambrosio already showed a lot of signs before he left. Melksham has always only been an average player.

You’ve also ignored the players who improved since arriving at essendon.

I'd only need a couple of fingers to count those who improved with us.

You’d only need a couple to count the players who improved after leaving as well.

Also, if our development is really so bad, why do players like Z Merrett become champions when players like his very own brother and others can’t even make it? Did we just invest more resources into the development of Zach?? Is our development just selectively bad?

Merrett is a natural. He'd be a champion no matter what.

In case you're confused, I'm on Dodoros side. So yes he was a good recruiting decision. That has nothing to do with the underperformed sides he's put together.
Lol, ok. So when players succeed it’s due to good recruiting. Yet when players fail it’s due to poor development. So basically dodo is a genius who can never fail.

Monfries had a career season straight after he left us and Melksham's Demons career is obviously better. Fantasia and Carlisle can be given but injury ruined them more anything so it's kind of a default thing.

now Melksham doesn't matter, because like Houli, we needed Melksham to become a midfielder and it became obvious that wasn't happening here, and obviously he didn't become one at the Demons either, so it's a bit of a who cares. But to say Melksham didn't improve is laughable

No, it isn’t. Monfries and melksham also left to play for considerably superior teams which you seem to be forgetting.

Also, while arguably melksham was a bit better for the first 2 seasons after moving to Melbourne, since then he has well and truly slipped back to his average self and for quite a few years has been arguably worse than he was when he played for us. That includes their premiership year, where he didn’t even make the team.

Didn't he do a knee in there somewhere too?

The problem was you using Zach Merrett as an example for good development. Brad Scott said himself he just gets out of his way.
I did not say that at all. I was pointing out that if all of our failure was due to bad development, as you claimed, why do some players make it and others not - when they receive the same level of development?

Its still a professional environment, which is going to improve every player to some extent. But I think it's a matter of degrees. The side that gets that little extra improvement out of a player/group has the edge.
Some players have responded more than others, but I don't believe our coaching etc staff have devolped enough of them anywhere near well enough.

I'm betting you put any of Dodoros sides over the last 20 years in Geelongs colours, and they'd be better.
