STATE OF PLAY:
  • The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
  • Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
  • Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
  • This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
  • Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

Manual interchange not working, moving the players around and they are not changing positions can’t bring on anyone from bench. Playing management mode on PS5
 
I’m at least glad they’re fixing stuff but the modes that can give us long term fun are so broken. 10th crash today? Maybe more, it’s hard to tell now haha

I agree with this. But hate seeing it. Turning the game off shouldn’t be the answer.

I find it weird that it happens going into the game and not just at the managed men. Since other game modes are fine for me atleast. Almost as if manger mode is requiring so much data to run the game it just crashed (which hopefully is a good thing in the future) as there is way more depth within that game mode

I’ve found this:
At home games you can do interchanges and positional moves.
The moment I leave the interchange screen the first time, it counts as my sub being used so I’m usually activating my sub at qtr time.

In away games I’ve had none of it work as yet.

Can't play a manager mode until some (non gameplay) things are fixed.

Player stats:
  • Match summary has 'ball winners' which are separate to disposals?
  • Home page stat screen between round has weekly stat leaders (that are sometimes incorrect), should be season long leaders
  • Player disposal numbers are simulated relatively well, but goals are definitely not. Sam Flanders won the coleman in one of my sims.

Awards:
  • Seems as though the All Australian team is picked based on overall, not season states. Love that it's been included, and that there is the option to see individual team's Brownlow leaderboard.

Offseason moves:
  • Multiple good young players delisted by teams (Matt Rowell, SDK, etc)
  • Draftees all bald, ages are wrong, can't be sorted by position/age/overall/potential

I'm sure there's other things too but those are some main gripes from my manager mode simulations.
 
Anyone else having a seriously bad time with kick ins? I get a good bug 50% of the time of kicking to a locked receiver who then runs away from the ball and leaves it for the opposition

Fair enough. I had this issue in an away game. Hopefully it works in home games at least
 
Will there be automatic interchanges eventually. Annoying going in and changing them

Yeah, same bug for me. Crhipps has been a leading marker with 3 marks for the whole season.

Draftees all bald, ages are wrong, can't be sorted by position/age/overall/potential
Hey, maybe they've just gone bald with anxiety over their future employment prospects?

there is defs no ****ing concept to the difficulty

beat tigers by 10goals the game froze just replayed that game and I am getting smashed and can even touch the ball honestly no idea wtf is the go with this crap

Ok, I finally bit the bullet and gave AFL 23 a go and after those patches, I must say that there is a good game here buried in-between all the issues and that once it's fixed and had all of the content added back in, It'll probably be the best ever Aussie Rules video game by a country mile. I had a pretty fun game between the Collingwood and Hawthorn AFLW teams that I won in a close contest. That was after the game was soft locked after Q1 of my first game between Collingwood and Gold Coast at Vic Park. (I have video of it, I just have to find a way to upload it from my PS5 and send it to Big Ant.)

It's still quite a bit rough right now and I would hold off purchasing it if you haven't yet and wait to see how it's going in a few weeks' time but it's getting better day by day. I just hope Big Ant learn a lesson from this and prevent themselves from doing whatever happened here again with a future title...

I applaud them for working around the clock to get this game to the point of where it was supposed to be on launch day but that is kinda faint praise. It should have been ready by launch day and Big Ant are certainly going to have a much harder time selling the next game when they get to it. I'm just glad we're finally getting the game that footy fans have wanted for ages.... (Even if the launch was a complete disaster...)

I do also echo the sentiment that the game is too quick. Like, As a fan of the Pies, I'm used to football being played quick but I currently feel the game is even quicker than they are right now. That and the AI are too accurate, That also needs to be tweaked IMO.

But I must say, I think in a month or two. This will be quite a good video game.

I've had 2 more games against Geelong, first on Hard.... won by 7 points.

Second game (on EASIEST lol) I got belted by 12 goals (they kicked 4 each quarter, while I only scored 1)
 
Just played a 30 minute game 7.5 mins quarters and it crashed with a minute to go. Please add a mid-game save option to save progress.
 
Has anyone bothered to read the guide properly? Highly, highly recommend doing so before playing again.
Agree it's useful for the mystery mechanics such as marking but I'm not getting the blue circles. Something to look forward to, should be a good system.

Anyone who wants BA to prioritise new game modes over bug fixes and optimising gameplay...your opinion is factually wrong.
