General rule of thumb - if the developers refuse to release proper gameplay footage/trailer then expect it to be a stinking pos.

GTA Trilogy is one who went this route and is now known as one of the worst remasters of all time.

The GTA Trilogy is actually quite solid now after all of the patches.

100% player movement is the biggest issue that the game currently has.
You want to feel like you have 100% control of the player. Currently it feels like you are almost watching someone else play.

I wished there was something like FIFA's 'square the shoulders when defending' button (L2?)... Where you move a bit slower, but have more control over lateral movement while facing the player.

They've messed up a lot of other things. Once you're tackled, you can't even get a kick or hand ball away, you just go down and you're pinned. I heard in the demo it was the complete opposite, though.

You can't hand pass short or even 10 metres if you have an opposition player in front of you, no matter what, or it'd be intercepted, which is really bogus, because Live 1 allows for short hand passes and kicks in front of the opposition. It'd only be smothered if an opposition player was super close in Live 1.

Also, they've got the same terrible mechanic from Evo 2, where you can can't rotate on where you've marked the ball and when you are looking for an option. That was a feature in Live 1, it's not in 23. This video is what I mean.

I just put up a video of the Management Career game I played last night vs AI on hardest.

This was taken from my stream so the overlays and me answering questions is still all in there, some might find it helpful.

I show the interchange as well, which does work in Management mode, I don't think it does in 'Play now'.

Would love to see auto interchange though.

23 is way too fast, as well. I can't have any composure. Live 1 has the best pacing, movement and controls by far. Can't believe 23 is so far behind Live 1.

I think the player control where they back away instead of turning and running would tie in really well with something like this. Make the 1v1 defender v ball carrier more of a contest than just a sprinting match. Like FIFA, allow the player with the ball to try to take on the opponent. Alternatively if they just dispose of it, there's a chance of smother or else a directionless kick. Whereas while in space, kicks nearly always hit a target (depending on who is kicking).

Live 1 was wayyyyyy too easy. If you get more time then the game is too easy. Personally would prefer to be rushed and challenged - that's how AFL footy is.

In game when you make the interchanges - is that the same screen now for out of game lineup selection? In that it shows stats, etc?

Edit: for management mode.

Real players are properly weighted, they don't run like they weigh 2 kilos like in 23. And you can turn 360 degrees and actually evade in Live 1. You have barely any control over your players in 23 to deal with anything.

Hey BigAntStudios and team,
Old man gamer here and I have recently dug into my skyrocket on the weekend and dished out for a PS5. I purchased the game on a PS4 disc and very grateful that it comes with a PS5 upgrade.

However, my question is... do the trophies you earn on the PS4 not carry over to the PS5 upgrade? I just played my first game on the PS5 (and mind you, the game is sooo much more fluid on the 5 over the 4) and I kicked a goal and got the 'Wave the White Flag' trophy again. Needless to say, there are now 2 icons on my home page for AFL 23 and I have to win the trophies all over again my the looks of it.

p.s. apologies if this is how all games work with the upgrade from 4 to 5.

Well yeah there are bugs currently, I agree with that. But I don't want the pace to slow down when the bugs are removed.

Another thing that Live 1 has over 23, is precision kicking. 23 reminds me of Evo 2's clunky controls and lesser control over players. I would hope this can get fixed, this isn't by design. Especially what I heard about the demos.

Definitely feel like I have less control over players. If you switch to a player running to the left and want him to run to the right, it takes about 3 seconds for him to actually run to the right. Turning a player with the ball is basically impossible without turning with a 10 metre radius

You also have little control on changing the selected players, it really fights you when you want to change which player you want to use.

I actually disagree with this. I'm finding I can make beautiful precision kick chains in AFL 23. Particularly with the stab modifier (L1) it's very satisfying. Perhaps even too easy, but still very satisfying.

I think I feel more for GoldbergsGold than anyone in this sad sorry state of affairs. I mean the poor bloke practically worships AFL Live the way Homer worships that waffle stuck to the ceiling (mmmm sacrilicilous) and to have the New Testament of AFL 23 turn to dust in his hands? Heartbreaking.
Definitely not my favourite sports game, it's a very rough around the edges game, but it's just the best Aussie Rules ever got to a decent video game. I've also cited other video games as examples to study from, which are light years ahead of Live 1.

It takes longer to fill the meter up in 23, and less controllable. The fact you can't turn and twist is also a factor in why it's inferior.
