Have you changed your settings from assisted player selection? If not, do that. I'm not really having significant issues with player switching not working.
If you change to Semi it's still hit and miss with player switching. If you use manual, you'll never win online.

Should be as simple as L1+right stick to switch to a certain player.

I'm gobsmacked that this is being brought up so much. Genuinely.

Just use ball trail for now.
I personally haven't taken notice to this at all

Does it even make a difference? unless i have ball trail on without even noticing this has hardly been a issue to effect the game

SIgh

If they ever fix it, I'll win the premiership as Richmond in your honor

I think it's too inconsistent, it's bi-polar like Melbourne's weather!!!

How can one game be free flowing and fun (as likely intended by the developer), then the next game there's just have issue after issue after issue ?

The spike in difficulty is irritating, I can understand it if it was natural as discussed Fifa, NBA 2K have their own tough difficulties... AFL '23 is borderline unfair BECAUSE the glitches and bugs enhance the issue (stuck in mud, the way that the animations get faster for a few seconds conveniently when the is about to or already has control of the ball). It makes no sense how the hardest difficulty is pretty easy, but a lower difficulty (like medium) the actual toughness of the AI increases. How can you go from marking the ball cleanly in one match, then the next match you nail no marks but the AI marks or spoils everything regardless of your prime position and timing ?

/end rant
Honestly I don’t think they can fix it, I don’t just think it’s a big ant thing either I just think the game of AFL is to hard to replicate to make it an enjoyable experience via a video game.

Graphically this game is good, the stadiums are stunning and most of the players are spot on. Perhaps playing against a mate will be more enjoyable.

Had a really nice game on patch 1.09 (ps5)

Pros -
  • kicking and marking feels good
  • Had a few passages of play where I could string a few quick handballs together (this was a rare occurrence)
  • Perfectly spoiling a ball and having it go to a teammate is nice although, the spoiling player ends up being quiet useless after, as it isn’t a smooth animation and the player is always off balanced and can’t really do anything afterwards.
  • Didn’t notice the massive shift in momentum that made the opposing team kick like 3 straight which has happened in previous matches.
Cons
  • Player switching even on manual is still non responsive especially trying to switch to another player from the man on the mark. definitely need a way to manually change a player using L1 and right joystick
  • Random plays such as a spoil causes the player to stop moving.
  • Lack of a manual way to kick and handball (no aim assist) is definitely needed - sometimes I just wanna kick into space for a player to run onto.
  • Lack of weight to the players (players are really quick around the ground) and a lack of a collision system
  • I lost count the amount of times where I had a player 2-3 metres from their man and my kick gets affected at the very last second……
  • Movement of players in big open space is fine but once it gets congested the lack of precision movement is very noticeable.
  • So many times I had my player tackled and looks like they have their arms free - couldn’t get off a handball and pinged for holding the ball — pretty frustrating
  • Biggest gripe right now - set shots and goals on the run are way too easy
Overall, I did have a lot of fun and looking forward to how the upcoming patches will further improve the game. Really hoping for a few massive patches to drop.

Development isn't linear so does not lend itself to a flow chart, we have isolated all features into sub-groups and whenever we feel an item won't add to the crash rate then it is added to the patch.

Most here are helping and want a better game, and the team certainly appreciate their constructive criticism. I couldn't ask more of the team here, working around the clock to make this right.
Any patches tonight?

Has the grass colour come up? May seem insignificant but watching tonight’s Geelong / Richmond game compared to the G in game it looks totally different.

I’ve tweaked HDR but nothing changes colour wise. Not sure if it’s just me though? 🤷‍♂️

I used to play PES a lot and Konami also struggled with grass colours looking extremely dry

Just wondering if anyone else noticed the fact that the coin toss always seems to be reversed.

(As in, it'll clearly look like tails - with that green part - facing up, but will always be called heads?)
