Has it been mentioned if custom teams are going to be able to be used in management mode instead of just season?
That's the only reason I'm not currently playing management mode.

This is something I hope they allow.

I have always stated that a tab with a list of delisted players and free agents where you can offer contracts to would be the best option for the game. I have also said an in box advising of injuries, suspensions and players coming to the end of their contract would be a good inclusion also.
 
One month since launch. What's the state of play? Single match still the only reasonably viable way to play, and the latest version of the game is dependant on which platform you own (if said platform has the game at all)?
I’m a season and a bit into management mode with no significant problems. The odd bug which I’ll report and post here but I’m having a lot of fun with it. Would absolutely say is viable.
Obviously still missing some fairly key elements but they’ll make it better.
Viable and playable compared to where it was at launch, but definitely not where it should be as yet.
 
BigAntStudios could actually save their game if a decent effort it put into management mode. Right now you can tell that the game is crashing down user wise. If we get a positive update regarding management mode this week (and we don't have to wait months for it to all come together) I do think this game can be saved.

Areas that must be addressed at a bare minimum:
  • STATE LEAGUE INTEGRATION
  • Fix free agency
  • Fix the stats
  • Fix the final 8 bracket
  • Add in training and progression
  • Injury and suspension management
  • Trade details, not just the "X player trade to Y club"
  • Midseason draftee number assignment
  • Moving rookies to primary list without requiring CPU
  • Filtering by names in the draft still not working

Areas that would be a great addition
  • Editable u18s in the academy
  • Free agency bidding with other clubs
Side note:
A fair few state league players are incorrectly aged, impacting drafts. Toby Murray from Essendon always goes at 1 or 2 midseason as an 18 year old, pretty sure he's 20 irl. Also Ben Jolley from Williamstown is far from being a 20 year old born in 2003.

I've had similar experiences here, except set shot kicking which I find quite easy.

The no mark attempt has seemed to only occur when my player is out positioned or outsized though, so haven't hated it even though the animation could be better so it feels like it didn't just bug out. Kinda the issue with a bug ridden game that sometimes design decisions can seem like bugs because we're so used to them. If the game was fine and this was happening feel like we may accept it?

Players running over the ball or not tackling or smothering a player especially inside 50 and running past them are my biggest 2 frustrations. I think tackling needs to be way easier/stickier just allow disposals from them most of the time but with a big variance in direction.
I think you make a good point with the marking. It is happening when I'm the shorter player and it is almost certainly a failed attempt. But given nothing happens visually, it has to be a bug surely.

Similarly set kicking appears to be the wind, but you can't see the indicator so it's pretty frustrating. My last game I treated it like an experiment, kicking at different strengths and at different points in the blue bar. 100% of shots drifted left or right. The (invisible) wind explains this perfectly well so hopefully that's what it is.

I took a decent vid of some of the frustrations with key moments in the game. When things like this are a little fairer the game is going to be a blast. But with patches like this where you lay four odd tackles and can't pick up the ball or get a free kick and the ball wigs out it is just not a fun way to spend your time.

Are you playing on PC? And what game mode? I've been playing Steam and Play Now and wind indicator is always showing up. Basically if I'm 50 out I'll aim slightly right of goals with a right footer, then balance for any wind, power into the red and time it in the middle of the blue. For mine it's still too easy, I don't feel much pressure taking shots and am zero chance to miss from 30m out directly in front for example. Would love a slightly quicker timing metre fill so there's more pressure on the timing component, or maybe just more punishment for not being perfect.

Similar with on the run shots, they're pretty easy. I think a faster fill again would be the solution, firstly means you don't need to power up for so long and secondly means accuracy is more difficult, which I think are both important inclusions.

BigAntStudios Would love something like "Tap B" to launch a quick shot at goal from any distance but with a big accuracy penalty. Allows quick shots from a clearance if there's 3 seconds left, also allows goals from 5m out without needing to wait for the timing bar to centralise and getting tackled while you do. Timing bar appears if button is held for >0.2 seconds (or whatever is deemed not a button tap). Or could use the Y button which AFAIK doesn't do anything when in possession?

Yeah I think that's it with marking. If you think about Steven May vs say Bobby Hill in a 1-1 wrestle, most likely Hill isn't going to even get the chance to move for the mark because May will hold him down and then mark it late. Possibly that's what they've tried to implement? But also possibly a bug as you've said. I think the result is right, just need to animate it better.

I play Steam on Season mode. I generally copy the season as it goes e.g. same lists and player positions, manually adjust for injured & suspended players etc. I think there might be an option to automate this one day in game which would be awesome.

I reckon season mode may have some continuity issues with new patches? After one of the patches I swapped to Play Now and noticed it was better so have stopped playing other modes until the game is stable
 
I get the comment and agree in part but how often do you see over the weekend players try and kick the absolute suitcase off the ball and it either works or it doesnt....I guess its risk vs reward. You can do it but what price will you pay for having a crack...versus taking the safer option.

I'm still not sure what I am doing with shots on the run. When it was first implemented I watched the meter (still too small for my liking) for the timing. Was hit and miss depending on the distance and what direction plus foot was being used to kick with.

Now I'm just giving it a second before letting go and the majority turn out to be a goal.

Likewise with set shots, my only issue is misjudging players that I think will make the distance.... but don't. Accuracy isn't a huge issue for me there.

Had someone point blank ask if I was getting the AFL '23 info from bigfooty..... I wouldn't confirm or deny such a thing!!

I noticed something was off a week and a bit ago, my experience was EXTRA teleporting (not just the marking contests and being chased for the ball... but it was happening everywhere on the ground). And it was like the old save took the new implemented patch fixes.... yet also retained some of the old and there's a conflict somewhere.
 
Starting to really enjoy the game. Future iterations of this series are going to be great. Just really need an improved management mode to be able to really sink some time into it.
I agree with management mode. Let's just hope that future iterations have more concentration on Management Mode/ Single player career over the Proteam, which we are still yet to see or hear anything more about.

Would agree with this if it were harder. But I still have no trouble with the accuracy metre after powering red. It needs to move faster or be a smaller sweet spot.
 
Surely an improved management mode is coming with this game? Like, they can't just leave it as broken as it is?

This has been confirmed by Ross a week or two ago. More features coming, and I'd assume more balancing and bug fixing. Training was one I remember and I think something about state leagues but don't quote me on that
 
We have to wait for Europe, won't know for a while as it's 8.30am there now - and once OK'd then it takes time to get through the platforms' servers.
So has a patch for consoles been submitted today or not? It doesn’t sound like a scenario any different to any other patch so can consoles expect a patch tomorrow?

*Maybe someone else can repost this as I’m assuming I’m on ignore from the big Rossco!!
