I've only played one game with this turned off but it makes a big difference to the gameplay.
Gameplay has actually come a long way.
If they can somehow manage to integrate genuine contested football in the next iteration, it has the potential to be a very fun game.
Just as long as they don’t release it in a cooked state again

Well don't know what happened but loaded the game for the first time in a week. On the PC using an xbox controller, pressing A in the menu's and nothing is happening, hit X and that lets me progress. Odd but maybe it will come good once in a game

Get into a game
Kick is moved to X
Handball is moved to Y
I don't know where sprint is
I try to figure out where the menu button is. GETTING THE MENU IS CLICKING IN ON THE RIGHT STICK
Unplugged it and has listed it as controller 7, i only have a few and the other two are unplugged

Loaded up other games to see if it was a hardware issue or some bad calibration. Nope everything else works fine, just AFL23

About a new interation, I don't know if we'll be getting one in the near future. According to JNT, It doesn't seem like they're working on one.

Then again, After how this game launched and how much needed to be fixed and how much still needs to be fixed (Mainly Management Mode which they said they aren't working on fixing and bringing in the other stuff that was announced which we haven't heard boo about since they were.), It's probably a good call just to keep working on this game instead of rushing into a new one.

At least we keep getting gameplay and roster updates... It always seems like a case of what could have been instead of what it actually is with these games.

Hopefully we get that Great Aussie Rules Video Game someday... At least Footy Bash has a chance at being a decent little Aussie Rules game...

New/old glitch

Took a shot with the behind the player point of view...... after the set shot kick, that's how the camera stayed. Other than the player indicator I couldn't see the player I was controlling as he was off screen. The camera view only reset once the ball went out of bounds. And this was about 30 seconds after the set shot kick itself.

I wasn't aware that Footy Bash existed. I'm surprised that there's no thread about it on the AFL Games board. I just saw that it's on the main video games but I never look at this board outside this thread.

I'd rather someone mod AFL Live 2011 than building on the completely broken 23.

I understand your feelings on that. I'm more coming from the perspective of the options Big Ant has at this point.

They can either continue to work on the current game and keep whoever is playing it happy with updates and the like to keep the AFL happy enough for them to keep the license or they can work on a new game right now, announce it and except another massive public backlash with more people calling the AFL to cancel their license and we pretty much get this toxic atmosphere where everyone is fighting with each other and no-one really looks forward to things because even if things turned out a lot better, It wasn't worth the grief and anger to get to it and I think that would turn a lot of people away from even buying it in the first place to make the investment worth it for them.

There is a third option of finally just giving it up as a bad job and giving the license back for someone else to try it out if they're interested but I don't think Rossco would willingly give up this license voluntarily after the stink he kicked up during the WW days and the development of AFL 23. He seems like the kinda guy who has an ego that won't admit fault and thinks he's better than anyone else out there even if it isn't true.

I think the main thing I take away from that is that someone should get a group of people together to mod AFL Live 2011. It would probably help make that game better and would probably get us closer to a better Aussie Rules game.

Also, Just saw this on Steam. Looks to be in very early development as well. I suppose the good thing to come out of this mess is that it's inspired other people to give it a go at making Aussie Rules games. Don't know how it will turn out but it's being done by an indie studio called Classyk Games.

They've done a game I can only describe as an old-school Space Sim inspired by Elite, A Magnavox Odyssey emulator and look to be releasing a classic starship shooter set in the human body next.

If Classyk Games does see this, I think we'd be interested in learning a bit more about it.

Hopefully game_chromosome is still chipping away at footy showdown too

And the Footy Bash devs DangerThumbs have been pretty active with chats and updates in their Discord server too.

Say what you want about Big Ant and how much of a dog's breakfast AFL 23 and their handling of it has been, It seems to have brought the people who want to make an Aussie Rules video game out of the woodwork and they're going forward with it.

Also, Can't forget Statto Software and their evolving series of Aussie Rules Management games under the Australian Football Coach banner.

Honestly, Besides the licensed AFL titles. It's kinda a good and active period of Aussie Rules games. I hope I see more people in the indie space giving it a shot.

So 50% off on Steam, its been a long time since I sold my original PS4 copy. Worth the $50 now or nah?

My quick glance over recentish reviews says maybe not...

I think if BigAnt do (or are already) make another AFL iteration then it would be in their best interests to not announce it until it's almost complete.
AFL23 was picked apart for years and everyone had their own fantastical ideas of what the game could and should be. The end product was obviously disappointing but if we'd all only heard about it a couple of months before I think it would have had a lot more grace.
The online chatter about this game become incredibly negative and it didn't stand a chance realistically.
They might also want to time the release for the start of a footy season, not 13 rounds in, to capitalise on the hype of a new season. The game also needs to be released with a full suite of game modes available from day 1, bugs and updates can obviously be patched in later but you need a content-complete game from day 1!
I think it highly likely BigAnt slink off in silence once this game is sunsetted but we'll see if they don't, whether they make the same mistakes as last time.

New update today but it seems like every update we're going to get is only Pro Team related.

Seems like it's mostly a Christmas related update too. At least from what I've seen, They haven't put out any notes yet besides this clarification from JNT. 1733725492942.png
I think it's safe to say if you bought this game for a mode or other stuff that was advertised, You're probably not getting it at this point if it's not there. No Mini-Games, No Hamish or any of the other stuff Ross went on about that isn't there.

I think I'm honestly more interested in what happens after AFL 23 is sunsetted like it seems to be right now besides Pro Team updates. Are they gonna try again or are we waiting for someone new to try? That's where my interest is at this point.

UPDATE: Before I posted, I found the notes. It is literally just Pro Team updates. 1733725716636.png
