WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

It's not only the scoreboard, but the radar, it's straight out of Evo 1.
How much variety can you really have in a radar though ?

Which is understandable given who the previous publisher was but it’s actually come as a bit of a surprise with Big Ant fully at the helm now
They were more proactive about Live 1’s marketing which from memory, wasn’t even as much as they would have liked.
Now that they’re fully independent (at least with AFL) I’d have thought we’d have definitely gotten more at this point in time
Tbf the pre-season is about to begin, there’s probably little point promoting something out of season.

I also saw in that clip that St Kilda were wearing their black home guernsey with white shorts, which they never wear against Melbourne. They always wear their clash kit in away games against Melbourne. This oversight clearly shows that Big Ant has no passion for AFL and I will be cancelling my preorder immediately.

It’s almost definitely an earlier build of AFL 23 imo.

100%

Dean kent retired in August 2022 and the game was playable at the GF live site, it will be from that build of the game.

Good to see it’s calmed down in here somewhat.

We supplied no score cards, just in-game vision that was "hud less".

The AFL have added the two scorecards in post production and a radar, I do not know why.

PS: Anyone that thinks this is an old tackle animation from a previous game needs their head read or is a troll (or both). All animation in the upcoming game is 100% new and is mo-cap.

The Live 1 radar is completely different.
Having a closer look at it, it’s definitely AFL 23 footage with Evo 1 scoreboard and radar almost photoshopped on top (presumably because there was no hud in the original footage)

Doesn’t really matter as we’ll hopefully find out in the next few days but once Ross/Big Ant can talk freely, I’d love to know why there’s two scoreboards in this, it’s such a uniquely weird error 😂

Well that was coincidental timing 😂

Ross goes WHACK

The uniforms aren't even out of date. Pepper Money is on the back of the Saints guernseys again and it has their new sock design. The royal blue Zurich and IG Group on the front of the Melbourne guernsey are also changes for this season.
Yep, Pepper Money is on the back with RSEA above the numbers.

Interestingly though, the home jumper for sale online doesn’t have the RSEA logo above the number which makes it look more like the one in the clip. I was trying to look for the piping on the collar and cuffs but as you can imagine it was pretty hard given the video quality.

There's often differences between retail and player issue jumpers.

We’re past games tackle animations mo-capped, or is this the first AFL game to have that feature?

You can't be surprised by the reactions.

If the AFL didn't doctor the footage and left it HUD-less, people would assume the footage was fake, because games have HUDs. This is what nutters do when given a breadcrumb.

The mere fact the AFL did doctor the footage without your knowledge (and did it really badly) does dent the confidence people had when you spoke of the really close relationship you have with the AFL, and how this time things will be different etc.

I haven't commented on the tackle animation, it was 1 second of footage haha

Ok guys February is behind us, AFL season starts this month, hopefully we get some definite news this month. Lets leave the crazy back in February and move forward. We can't judge a 1 second screenshot that the AFL decided to doctor. Let's not scare Ross and the rest of Big Ant out of this thread - yeah we all wish for more news but it'll come eventually. We played this with Big Ant back in 2010-11 and it's a hell of a lot more than most game devs give. I cry in FIFA Career Mode every time people whinge about lack of engagement - we're in safe hands

Oh, I'm not going anywhere this was a great read. Watching the speculation and assumptions. I have seen worse hour long youtube videos on "reading body language"
I hope they release the first 4k screenshot 1 pixel at a time.
See you all thought I was using "." full stops in my sentences in secret they were just single black pixels. In around a year we may have a single screenshot from just the dots.

I must admit I do appreciate the people calling these "leaks" from an official video from the AFL like they "accidentally" showed something.

Another day like yesterday and I'd be tapping out of the thread I think.
