WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

I know you love it like a son, and s**t on every other AFL game like they murdered your son, but Live had it's fair share of issues too.

There's a reason it was a 6/10 game.
Like I said, with Live 1 it was heading in the right direction for once, but I wanted more iterations for it to get to a higher level. And I love Parasite Eve like a son, I mean daughter.

I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to defend the new one the same way. Solid foundation, needs more iterations. I hope not, I'm not sure how forgiving people will be with a game like that in 2023 compared to 2011.

I don't expect a perfect game. But I hope for more than a solid foundation.

I already liked the cross hairs the more I look at it, I thought that was a great idea, like aiming in shooters.

Same for me. Looks really functional and fresh too and from re-watching the goal kick videos, the snaps/modifier kicks look amazing in terms of fluidity and execution with the timing meter.

Wonder if they’ve got a “feeling” tomorrow 🤔

How is it mind boggling when the game was ‘unplayable’ ?
Of course they’re gonna cop backlash if their game is unplayable 🤣
Same as any developer would

That being said, they’ve done an extremely good job to get the game to where it is today

They still need to fix Tennis World Tour 2, it doesn't have a backhand slice animation...

Just remembered there's gonna be a stadium creator, **** me that's gonna be fun to play around with. The only BA games I've played are RLL4, DBC17, Ashes Cricket and AO Tennis so I assume some new assets will be in the newer iterations of the stadium creator but along with hopefully the game coming prepacked with AFLW venues like Ikon Park and Norwood Oval it's gonna be great to have some different grounds for state league games to be played at, particularly outside Victoria.

I think they do need to start promoting sooner rather than later, they can't afford to fall into the trap of games that only start promoting a week or so before release.

You should be promoting your game months in advance in my opinion. Slowly drip feeding the different content.

Actually they did that with cricket 22

I think the last thing we want is a slow drip feed.
A slow drip feed would literally break this thread. Imagine the page count by the time anything of real substance comes along

With you on that. While Bigfooty and maybe Reddit are 'probably' sensible enough (the last few days may disprove me) to appreciate a game as a solid foundation, we make up about 1% of the target market. The other 99%, the facebook/tiktok fanboys (our favourite "this looks like PS2" - already saw a few of those on the 1 second clip) who love a potshot, won't be as forgiving.

I'm certain we'll be fine though - BA are much more experienced and have a solid base of sports games in their pocket (back in 2011 I think it was literally Rugby League 1 was their only other sport game) and I'm sure Ross and some of the team have been quietly working on some plans for this game waiting for Tru Blue to lose it. They love footy and patching these days is so much easier - anything they want to throw in, they can in a much easier way than back in 2011

The game will be out for maybe 2 minutes before some Facebook mouth breather will post "Trash. Just let EA or 2K make it." and "Nice PS2 graphics."

Edit: Probably the trailer actually.

for those that have played AO tennis 2. We need more cut scenes such as those in AO, in an afl game in a career mode (like the press conferences and the tweets from fans etc.. Not just a menu between games like other games have done. I was happy playing evo 2 for the match gameplay, but going to game from game in a career mode with no cutscenes or storyline is what got boring for me.
Also a trophy cabinet like they had in AO2 where you can see your Coleman medal and your best and fairest trophy would be cool. Drives you to keep playing to add a premiership medallion and brownlow to the cabinet.

Edit: also add training drills mid week for your player like AO2.

I use AO2 as an example as it was created by big ant also.
