WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Once the game launches ill document who wants to play and we will run a tournament on stream when that feature is available so we can all watch and banter
Shame I can’t join cause my life is so busy with everything but it’ll be awesome to watch at the very least :thumbsu:

A sub league finals series could be prime for the channel later on in the season

Trying to stay on top of notifications for this thread, approval queues from all the new accounts etc is like....

How many regional grounds do we realistically we'll get in each state. I'll start with WA:

Would have to be in:
  • Lathlain Park
  • Fremantle Oval
  • WACA???

Possible
- Rushton Park (Peel Thunder ground, associated with Fremantle)

Unlikely
  • Steel Blue Oval (😢)
  • Leederville Oval
  • Claremont Showgrounds
I feel like the only official regional grounds we’ll get are those that AFL/AFLW sides play at in the regular season

So Fremantle Oval will be in there for the AFLW side and maybe the WACA as they don’t have to make it from scratch.

I’d love it if all pre-season and training grounds will be in there but that’s probably a few games away

Are the academy stadiums actually pretty like for like? Haven't seen many created stadiums in the cricket games.
There’s a Subiaco oval someone made in the Cricket 22 academy, it kinda looks like the actual ground if you squint 😂

But a custom ground that looks sorta like the real thing is better than nothing

The West Coast AFLW team plays at Lathlain don't they? Surely that'd be in.

I'll be sad if Alberton isn't in considering its where Ports AFLW side has their home games but i'll understand it because its being redeveloped

Question to those whom played it at the launch evening.
I feel the problem in context of the review videos is that the angle of the gameplay doesn't really translate reality to the youtube uploads of giving a good idea of the feel of the game and perhaps it was played more at side-angle 2 or 3 so you can see most of the ground, so it looks more distant and a birds-eye camera angle. Maybe there was an option to have a closer side-view in menu?? But one thing i picked up on, was that it looks like the game has a Fifa gameplay style about it in structure and look, camera angle, and i was thinking, that might be a great idea to follow that route instead of going for something that is overly complicated and over the top at this stage, if this makes any sense at all?? I don't know how to say it any better.

edit: A more refined, improved and straight ahead version of every other AFL game that has been made. Simplified, with an engine that can easily be updated and added to :)

Tbh I have no idea of the AFLW home grounds other than Freo and Carlton 😂

Even if the only WA state grounds are Freo Oval and Lathlain, I’ll happily take that over every WAFL game at Optus

Are you saying that FIFA makes you feel like a premier league superstar even if you don't use the in depth combos and so forth, and this should be the same? If so I agree. Should be able to have fun and look good with just the basic controls.

I’m surprised bigant and the AFL haven’t released a proper gameplay video yet

Figured you’d want proper footage out there rather than that of folks recording of a screen

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

This could happen closer to launch day i'm guessing, but i found this video which was a good example of gameplay. I really like the graphics of the players and the tackling animations look pretty cool. Player movements look really natural. Only thing i noticed was the Ruck tap-ins look like one motion, so maybe there is room for a more varied approach to jump and tap options, depending on controls, so maybe one button push is jump and tap, but perhaps different combos change the jump and tap motions.

Honestly this is the most excited I’ve ever been for a video game. Counting down the days like early December. And yes, all you negative nancies, I’m aware it’s not going to be a 5D, 8K, 600 fps, brain blowing experience, but geez, we are finally getting a REAL footy game

Couldn’t agree with you more!! I’m pumped and especially excited to see how it fares months into release hopefully with UT updates and real world player upgrades also!!

I think all AFLW grounds will definitely be in, they'd have to be.
As long as they have main stadiums licensed and the stadium builder works enough to make grounds like Waverly, Subi etc. I'll be satisfied. The game seriously looks amazing, as a guernsey nerd I'm excited to see what the FJGD community can conjure up along with retro teams and other designs. Can't wait to get the game, and really thankful that BigAnt took it onboard!

Based on the AFLW grounds I'd assume these have all made it in:

  • Unley Oval
  • Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex
  • Ikon Park (confirmed)
  • Victoria Park (confirmed)
  • Windy Hill
  • Fremantle Oval
  • Blacktown International Sportspark
  • Arden Street Oval
  • Alberton Oval
  • Punt Road Oval
  • RSEA Park
  • North Sydney Oval
  • Lathlain Park
  • Whitten Oval

This isn't including the ones already in previous games.
