WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Weren’t the people that went to the launch event supposed to get the game early ?
Wonder if they’ve got it yet 👀
I don't believe it was early, I just believe it was a copy of the game when it launches. As for review codes, these aren't out yet and I'd be surprised if there are reviews at launch. Usually, these kinda games come in real hot, which lines up with with Big Ant saying they're hard at work tweaking the game.

I believe JNT BA makes BigAntStudios Ross’ bed.
His role has finally been revealed. Thank you for the exclusive

Awww no my real job has been found out. Even Ross didn't know.
BigAntStudios do you guys still have to keep to the AFL's content release guidelines or are you free to spill what you want about the game when you want. (Silently hoping its the second option)
What do you want to see? If you "all" can come to a consensus that is nothing to do with gameplay, I've had enough looking at gameplay this week, or anything to do with... "that mode". I'll think about it.

So you might show us something, but it can't be anything that anyone is interested in?

I'll bite. An in-depth description of career mode. Can we, for example, create a player, and take that player from U18 to the AFL, while playing as the whole team?

Is there a cheat code to turn the football into a tin of Milo?

So if we come up with something we don’t want to see we might get to look at it. The prophet from Big Ant is most gracious and kind.

Its only just over a week away and no real proper game play footage so I can understand why people are asking to see it?

I think the management mode is up there for me in terms of wanting to know more, how in depth is it? Will we get realistic possession rates, injury replacements and new draftees that are not a whole draft pool for Angus Hawkins, Dustin Neale, Nat McGovern ...

Just for the record, posts on BigFooty often show up in Google searches so assume that this thread at 338k views has been hit quite a bit while people are searching for info on this game. That means everyone's posting is on display. I get it, you guys are keen for info but the game isn't far off and if I were some of you I'd be thinking about the kind of posts I were publishing as some of it is pretty ridiculous. It's a video game board and Dan and I are pretty lenient on content but we're going to have to start tidying up the thread a bit as some of these posts as they're a bit embarassing for the site if they were to show up in a Google search.

If only Google had a "-whinge" parameter, the search content might line up with my ignore list.

So the most important part of the game you guys are still refusing to show? Must be real proud of the work.

Full list:

Most fairly standard, which is ok, but this one is interesting:

Defeat a club's main rival in a finals series match, in season or manager mode.

Hopefully the derbies/showdowns and so on and so forth are hyped massively in the commentary etc to build the atmosphere.

Actually quiv there’s plenty of mobile phone footage of a dev build floating around. The irrefutable industry data suggests this is the best way to show off gameplay.

Here’s one for you.
Nothing “gameplay related”
An important inclusion to me is that in a game, when you view the stats ie - handballs, disposals, tackles goals etc. is the FA column in there (fantasy) so you can see the fantasy scores? This was in EVO 2 and a really good inclusion and I feel it’s a must.
Can you please verify if this is included?

PS - maybe I’ll help make the bed if you answer.

We are keeping the stats, which are exposed to players, but we're not calculating fantasy scores - I will see if I can get this added.

Got the numbers just now from the retailers, AFL23 has the biggest pre-order numbers for any game in Big Ant Studios history, agreed - campaign is a total failure.

I was on the fence about getting it but changed mind and def going to give it a crack on release.

I am here nor there for gameplay , I just don't think you can truly replicate a game of AFL in video game form like you can Basketball. Decent graphics with likeness for most if not all players will be enough for for me on the field wise but my biggest must is the management stuff as said before the recycled player names kills the fun of AFL games when you roll into the following season, it even does the same on NBA but given the community hopefully the people that love that side of it can keep the updated draft classes or even historic draft classes would be good.

Hopefully, future videos will shed light on this and hoping Big ant on this thread can answer if possible, but was wondering if the confidence meter you have in Cricket 22 and 19 will be included in AFl 23? I think that is such an important game mechanic and we all know too well how confidence is so important in sports.

That’s awesome news for BigAnt.

Are you happier with this game than you were with AO Tennis and Cricket 22 a week out from release?

To be fair, if Chief cared about that the main AFL board wouldn't exist! ;)

Isn’t your purpose here to engage with the community?

Instead you just have half of them on ignore and belittle them behind their back whilst simultaneously offering no information on a product you’re trying to sell. I’m really struggling to see what your purpose is here.
