WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Ok, so some good news... so good news for me I can relax a little and some for you. So today and early next week have cleared up a little thanks to some progress with some projects I have been working on for other titles, cough Cricket cough. Now if I were to say maybe I can pull Ross in to do some media captures early next week, or maybe I just do it myself we'll see. What would you guys like to see..?

Of course, the mode that must not be named 🙊 will be off limits still, we have some fun things for that later.
Also how does development work over big ant titles. Do you have some that are strictly to one title or is everyone working on multiple depending when they are needed.

Just hoping it's not a situation where it's like afl for a few days of the week then cricket for the rest.

Yeah I figured but doesnt hurt to ask again, probably gives more hance of getting an answer than sitting around waiting for older posts to get answered
Sorry I was a bit harsh. The question

‘when we will see some gameplay before May 4th and also when the previously mentioned in store play sessions will be happening’

has been the major topic over the last 100 pages. Where Ross has also answered this question many times. My advice would be to click on Big ant studios profile by finding the last post they made and click on their posts tab and read through all their previous posts to answer these questions

Took a break from the thread for a few days due to sickness and glad I did. At least now Bigfooty is only giving me a notification when Big Ant or JNT post - not sure how that got set up but appreciate it. As cruel fate would have it, poor Palmomagpie is still crook and have had to throw in the towel for last night's gather round game and tonights games. Would have been plum timing for the game but it is what it is - as long as I make the Hawthorn training on Saturday and the game on Sunday I'll be happy (until the siren sounds and then I'll be too deep into the beers on Coopers corner)

Sadly went back and had a last run of AFL Evo 2 in my down time. Huge gripe for me is the fixturing in management mode (won't get started on Geelong vs Hawthorn Easter Monday being at Marvel in the "official" season). Have done my best to dig through the multitude of pages on this thread - but have we had any word on how subsequent seasons will be fixtured? Evo 2 threw it all out the window, scheduling games on every day of the week, multiple games at the MCG with 30 minutes between them, and ALL blockbusters dropped (eg. ANZAC day, Easter Monday etc.) Fingers crossed AFL23 has those big clashes coded in each season

Workaround for this is giving players the option to change the stadium even in Management Mode. Just give us the option of available stadiums designated as home grounds to the side hosting and you're good to go. E.g. if I'm managing Geelong and it's a Geelong v Collingwood game, instead of it just automatically selecting GMHBA, you have the option of having it at GMBHBA, MCG, Marvel. If I'm managing Geelong and it's an away game against Hawthorn, give us the option to select from MCG, Marvel, Launceston.

Yeah that would be amazing! Some seasons in Evo 2 (as Hawthorn) I'd play 6 games at the MCG, 5 at uTAS. Then some seasons it was 10 at uTas and 1 at the MCG and or none in Tassie at all. Not a huge issue but it really mucked with the experience. Setting up future seasons that go off script would be a tough gig in game dev (even FIFA stuffs it up with games at 2am etc.) but would be great to at least Thursday - Sunday only except for Easter Monday, ANZAC and Queens Birthday + keep those important blockbuster matchups running each season.

+ Whilst I'm throwing out demands, 100% for "career stats" being in management mode . I want to keep track of players career matches, goals, debut season etc. Evo 2 had it hidden but was always nice running out for a game and seeing one of your players had a milestone match

You heard me. :tearsofjoy: Na, the environment team are great at what they do.
Adelaide gonna get the old Joe Misiti treatment after tonight’s result
Let me just check this against my team list... I don't see an Adelaide in here anymore weird last updated last night more and more curious.
Hey JNT BA …how is the Planet Cricket page since the Cricket 24 news released? Polite...? Respectful…? Enthusiastic…? Complimentary…? 😉
Probably better than here, which says a lot.
As with all communities full of different personalities and wants there are good and not so good aspects to all from our individual points of view, and that's perfectly fine, I'm 100% ok with dissenting opinions but sometimes there are better ways to communicate those than just pure hate for the sake of hate. I enjoy all the places I watch over and read. Some things I will pay a lot of attention to and check. Some things I will TLDR and be like eh, just be patient. But much like you all I'm on the other side as well where I'm like OMG new game give me all the info now! For the games, I am really excited for. So I can't blame you all for the excitement and then disappointment in things that aren't always in your control.

Some really great ideas. Taking lots of notes and we'll see what we can get time for next week before our guest comes in to show even more.

Guys, I think we should leave BigAntStudios alone for a little while, something tells me that he is getting emotional therapy and support after last nights performance by his Blues, we might be lucky if AFL 23 comes out at all now :$

One of the most annoying things regarding WW's career modes was foxturing. Hopefully BA have worked out a way to 'lock in' certain fixtures every season.

Not sure if it could be implemented but what should be introduced for each team (via the academy) is to select multiple venues. For instance since you go for Hawthorn, you set your pre-season venue as UTAS and all home pre-season games are there. Set your HA1 venue to the MCG and HA2 venue to UTAS. Finals venue to MCG.

As a saints fan, nothing would annoy me more than playing all home finals at Marvel stadium. Similarly, I could set my pre-season venue to Moorabbin and leave Marvel for the home and away season. Its clear we're going to have some very good looking suburban venues, would be a shame if they aren't incorporated into the male career modes whatsoever.

Sounds like a pretty big issue to me

Glad I'm not the only one who resented it. I'm sure Big Ant have some sort of strategy to work around it though. And if not, I'm sure we can push them to patch it if so. Bloody keen!

Giving the player the ability to change things is always an easy fix.

In AFL Evo when a player would move clubs they would be given any old number (In one save Dusty was number 47 at his new club). It would really ruin the immersion having the best players in odd numbers. If we were given the option to edit any player, including jumper numbers of opposition, this would've been an easy fix.

Evo 2 eventually allowed number changes - can't remember if that was launch or patched in when the season pack came out.

So the day of the original launch has come and gone and we're still yet to see gameplay. The red flag is no more. It's now an official warning.

Do you seriously not think they adjusted the rollout after the delay? You think they were gonna go all the way to April 13th and have it release with no gameplay? Idek how you could legitimately think that.
