WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

I don't know if the PS5 has the same feature but I love the series x where I could be playing basketball and I am halfway through it and my almost 1 year old son wakes up etc and If I have to sort him out I could turn the Xbox off and come back to it via quick resume, same as any of the other sporting games like Madden or WWE it is great. To be able to jump from game to game without having to save or get up and worry about discs in and out is a benefit to.
PS4 and PS5 have it too. They call it rest mode. As long as you don't lose power or change games you can come right back to the same spot even a week later.

All you people talking about why digital is better than physical are forgetting trade ins.
Trade-ins are the death of smaller developers, they see no money from them.

Different features. XBOX has the suspend feature which allows pretty much two games to be running at the same time. PS only has the rest mode that basically only remembers what your PS was doing when you turned it off.

BigAntStudios With the new Tasmanian AFL team licence set to be announced next week, will we have the option of creating either a 19 or 20 team league to include a Tassie side and/or another franchise like Canberra or Darwin?
The ability to create expansion teams or and be able to have them come into your leagues would be really cool. I'm not familiar with Cricket 22 but I heard the league customisation was really deep. Hopefully the franchise mode is built upon and supported throughout the lifetime of the game.

it's reasonable to assume that player data will be updated frequently throughout the season, given that it is powered by Champion Data. It would be good to see whether team tactics will be updated as well.
No I don't think that's reasonable to assume at all. How does the fact that the player ratings are based on Champion Data imply that ratings will be updated regularly?

Oh right. Didn't realise Xbox's was more technical, that's cool. Definitely something I wish PS had with the amount of times I've left something in the heat of battle only to have my son want to play Rocket League or Sackboy or something. Not so bad with most games' autosaves these days at least.

My understanding is that player ratings in the game have been built using player data captured by Champion Data throughout current and past seasons. Therefore, if Big Ant still has access to Champion Data's updated player data, it's not unreasonable to think that the game developers would incorporate this information to update player stats in the game.

even EVo 2 had the 'Gameday' thing where updated player stats could be downloaded.

Yep - BigAntStudios Ross is on a plane to India and JNT BA has promised gameplay once Ross is out of wifi range! Stay tuned...! ;)

And while you are waiting - do your homework! :)
I know there are external people in there recording gameplay while I'm in the air, I may be away but I'm watching!

Any chance you could share the screenshots on here that you have requested to be added to Steam?

I don't have access to them, they'll be up on Steam pretty soon I'd expect.

Yeah I thought the same. I was pleasantly surprised when I realised how the XBox version worked. Really handy feature that I hope will make its way to PS sooner rather than later.

how good would it be if it was a Single, double or triple player pack. With no such thing as duplicates(unless the cards have trade value on a market ofcourse)

Is it possible to have the cards numbered? With new special releases - like TOTW or rising star or player of the week. Would make owning the card even more special and valuable and keep the market and the card at a value aswell. Just like owning a card in real life:)
Im really hoping the cards do have trade value;);)

Really small thing I noticed
On steam, the intro to the trailer (and games if my memory serves correct from the launch) has added in a bit of colour
Nothing big at all but looks much nicer
