WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

An ultimate team style mode is exactly what this game needs. Let the whales bankroll the game.

Aren't you supposed to be banned

Yea because there's like 100 professional leauges in the world with thousands of teams of players....wait...

Also wanting to add the most hated feature in gaming history to this game.
I mean the 100 professional leagues part is hardly an issue when NBA 2K, Madden, NHL, MLB all have Ultimate Team style modes.

Even places like Punt Road and Victoria Park would be good.
If the AFLW is included fully then those grounds could/should be included.

I think at minimum Ikon Park needs to be added since that’s like the home of AFLW & also BigAnt sponsers the Carlton AFLW team

Whilst Ross and the gang are here, I thought i'd run a suggestion through.

When selecting your uniform for a game, can you please make it so that you can separately choose guernsey, shorts and maybe socks? I've seen this in the MLB games and would love it on the new game.

Anything like this would be amazing

It'd also be good to see the WAFL, VFL, SANFL have full sponsorship on their kits and maybe even include the TSFL.

Really hope BA have people with a significant background knowledge in the players when doing the ratings, therefore the best players in the game are more noticeable then you’re average fringe player.

Secondly, as a stats man, in previous AFL games it seems to be Ruckman, CHF, CHB / back men that dominate the possessions, if there’s going to be a realistic feel we all know AFL is a heavily midfield dominated game and you’re half back types.

I don’t want to see Draper and Daniher leading the possessions for there respective sides

You also don’t want Daniher kicking 10.0 straight either, gotta be 2.5 with 5 shots out of bounds on the full as well, just to make it that extra bit realistic for the users playing the game out there ;)

It's because the easiest way to play is when you get possession is to kick it long and straight down the guts, so your blokes down the spine dominate.

You're not encouraged to run and carry because of crappy controls, sprinting being broken and tacklefests.

Yeah correct, let’s hope the game allows overlap, chipping around according to the team game styles. After all we are after a game that mirrors the real thing.

This is where AI running patterns and space awareness comes into it, receiving a handball 5-10m away compared to 2m. We can only hope

I think Cricket 22 had a similar Ultimate Team kind of feature, letting you pick players in your starting 11, with a certain cap. Similar to a Supercoach type gamemode that can be played online.
That’s what I ment but these numpties have a few kangaroos missing in the paddock and think gambling has something to do with it, open ya eyes bosos it’s a fun mode and doesn’t involve spending money at all unless your like the hundreds of streamers who have nothing better to do

I'm on board with a fantasy draft or SuperCoach scenario but micro transactions and Ultimate Team nonsense have ruined EA sports games beyond repair.

I don't know why EA are always thought as the top tier sport games developer, when 2K and Konami make better sport games and everyone hates greedy EA.
2K is getting off light here in terms of greed, unless you want to no life the game you pretty much need to spend another $100 on top of the game just to make your MyCareer player useable online. Also packs like every other sports game.

Because EA actually makes games that are kinda good? Pretty much every sports game 2K has made in the past 10 years, with the exception of WWE 21 and 22 and PGA Tour 21, have horrendously bad reviews, at least from fans. And PES just went free to play and is now the worst reviewed soccer game ever made.

NBA Live series was so bad, they ended up cancelling the series, since 2K does a better job. And PES is still considered better than FIFA gameplay wise, you see that consensus 9/10 times on comparison videos.

I was comparing by gameplay. But sure, they're all greedy if you want that assessment, although EA was voted the most hated company in The US. So, they may be the worst out of the bunch.
