WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

These ratings are game breakingly bad. I'm a big ant fan and I played the shit out of afl live and probably will this. But having 20 Pies players rated between 87 and 90 just completely negates the relevance of any player ability or list management.

Sidebottom 90, Darcy Cameron 88. It's just laughable. Gonna be able to trade Darcy Cameron for Davies Uniacke types based on that. Which completely ruins management mode.

Sidebottom is a solid 88 at least. Bloke is good. Maybe not 90+ but I'd go with 88.

It makes me wonder if there are some contractual obligations involved. The best ratings I've seen in an AFL game were in Total Aussie Rules back in 2004 - 2008. Your standard 15-22nd type player generally rated low 70s. Rookies would be drafted in the 60s, top draft pick low 70s and would improve to a ceiling in line with their pick number.

80+ was a gun player and very occasionally you'd get a high 80s absolute superstar. It felt accurate. I'm not sure how it's possible to have rated a modern day Sidebottom so far above n daicos as one example, or cunnington, and Darcy bloody Cameron.

For those saying you can edit ratings, I don't think this is going to work for management mode or online so not really a solution. Management mode because new draftees are likely going to be to the old scale.

For real?

Cunnington at his best wasn't even a 90. Mid 80s at his peak.
Are you for real? Absolute nuffie comment, particularly from a Roos supporter too.

Cunners at his best was one of the best inside mids at the time. Was an absolute work horse around the contest and holds the record for the most contested possessions in a game.

I agree on this year's form he wouldn't be in the 90s. But he has just come back from some pretty serious health issues too.

Wouldn’t mind having state league players rated 50-65, bottom 10 players on afl teams lists rated 60-70, majority of afl players rated somewhere between 70-80 and then using the very elite players for those 80 and above leaving the absolute best players of the AFL/legends being 90+

Saw the gameplay video looks decent.
But again the ratings are way off , each team has like 10 players 90 rated , fully cooked. In what world is cunnington 90 lol

90s are meant to be for the top tier A grade stars

Thank God we can edit them

I suspect this is to allow for VFL/SANFL etc players significantly lower.

Concerned to see Selwood and Mundy at 94 in free agency list though. Hopefully they aren't in the game otherwise the AI will surely draft them mid-season every sim.

I thought AFL live 2007 had a good feature with the ability to try and coax a player from retirement, granted you could only do it for players retiring in your own team.
But would be pretty cool if you can try and convince a player out of retirement from other teams.
Eg. Luke Hodge to Brisbane, Liam Shiels to North..

This is why I was hoping to have the workshop available pre game

I was using 75 overall (Gold Fifa players start at 75) for the guys who are fringe 22 types. Allowed for vfl/sanfl/wafl guys to be 60 to mid 70s, then the juniors in the 40-55 range

I’m worried with these ratings the leagues below are going to be way too high

Twistie can get stuffed. His rick roll was pretty elite, but when you double down and make a video breaking down how great your gag was...nah thanks.

Tom Hawkins face is pretty poor atm

Fingers crossed the ratings calm down a bit with the day 1 patch. They are way too high and if they stay that way, management mode will get pretty snoozey very quick. Love the gameplay from what we saw though - buzzing for this.

No way I can stay up until midnight these days but will be looking forward to watching the twitch recording tomorrow. Was it just the 4 content creators that went in ?
