WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

The fact you don’t see issues is a testament to how efficient they've been!
It’s no biggie, just discuss the game in a reasonable way and there’s no headaches for anyone.
Gotcha! Again, genuinely curious.

After all that talk of pre-season games yesterday, just been informed that they are in the game. (As much as I don't rate them, I did say I wasn't sure if they were there or not.)

Can we trade future picks at all would be my question. Didn't see it in Live 2 or evolutions, and would be a great implementation for 23. Makes trading more exciting and meaningful.

Future trades can be traded, but ATM only for the next year. (edit)

Ross which player model do you think has come out the most realistic? I’d love to see how dusty came out with all his tattoos and haircut…. Just saying
I think SOS (Jack) looks pretty spot on, a bit easier to judge when you see them week-in-week-out so that's a biased view. You'll like Dusty, I'll make sure he's one of the first that I take a screenshot of.

You guys really think some dude at EB or JB is sitting there plugging discs in all day to make sure they work?
Can confirm, after working many years in that industry they do not do that. Would never have enough time in the day to test anything new when I was there.
Where'd this come from?

I've picked up games literally the day they've arrived. Delivery man wheeling them into EB, EB employee whips out the Stanley knife, game in my hand.

Not sure stores would like having inventory just sitting there for a week not being able to be shifted?
"Continuing to speak on my experience in the retail space" Games very very rarely come on release day unless there were specific instructions. There are various reasons why a retailer would sell a game on the spot. Sometimes it was due to public holidays or in some cases such as the floods in Sydney when truck shipping was stuck. It happens but not often, although sometimes there were split shipment issues where stores would sell out of preorder copies and wait on the public stock. It's very situational.
When can we expect some sort of gameplay, or some more in-depth info about the game?

So I'll add a little to this, this is not the full plan just the one side I have been re-arranging. Since the shipping issues I have pushed back one of the creators we had coming in just for a week while I assist with some of that. So they will be in next week now, unfortunately not this week as was originally planned as I am in and out of the office too sporadically to work with them. But this is actually better as since it's not Gather Round we can give them more time with longer access to the game and us without them being on a super strict deadline, which they really were unfortunately it would have been a very quick visit, for them to then head over to Adelaide.
JNT BA How’s that schedule looking? 🤞
Good timing to ask this. So as above the schedule did change while I'm a little busier than normal this week. But not for long see above :D.

Hmm even though this was not in my original timeline, as that's now time traveled and become a little longer, rather than posting the other side of the coin I thought I would post a nice one on the field this time. I know there was a comment a while ago about this build on the night they saw two different-sized posts, would have been weird a weird angle that would have been shown. Again this is just from the launch party video, not the final product. vlcsnap-2023-04-11-14h07m27s991.png
Okey dokey I think there’s some people in here who need to settle down, take a breath and give the mods a break…they’ve been working hard to keep this thread on track and keep it focussed on discussion of the game.
Obviously people are frustrated with the release delay but that’s no reason to carry on like pork chops over a game.

I’ll be watching the thread too now so be aware I’m not as nice as Dan and dwwaino…time to let them have a bit of a rest.
Chill a bit peeps.

Cheers and thank you.
Just want to thank all the mods who are working overtime in here. You guys are great and hopefully, it won't get too out of hand again. As I am here a bit and see some of the posts disappear very suddenly these guys have been doing a great job keeping it civil they have been on top of things very quickly.

Hey Ross, how will trades work in career mode? Will there be like requests or poaching & will there be cutscenes for it?
There will be both requests and poaching, free agency rules etc. no cut scenes for this part of the game.

This made my day, 100+comments of arguing all for nothing

Alright folks let’s put the great preseason feud of April behind us unite for a worthy cause IMG_1916.JPG

Great news re: pre-season. Like I said wouldn't have made or broken the game for me, but that is sure nice to have.

Thanks for clarying that. Much appreicated.
Future trips can be traded, but ATM only for the next year.
I believe the AFL only allow clubs to trade one year into the future. Unsure why that's the case. Anyways, don't see a reason for the ability for extra years to be traded if it doesn't actually occur in the AFL, yet.

Clubs (probably dogs) would be dumb enough to sell the farm for multiple years running then stuff themselves for future years when it doesn’t work out. AFL should never allow trading more the a year ahead. Keeping the same rules in regards to which ones they can trade based on previous or exisiting picks in that round

Still hoping for the actual gameplay reveal to feature Ross strutting in like

vince mcmahon GIF

Then just showing brutal bumps and tackles from real life followed by reenactments in AFL 23. And all the other stuff we've queried over the last 500 or so pages.

Then walking off stage like

The reason it works in America is that players do command a lot more value. In the AFL, i can't imagine a player commanding value for 3 first round picks. 2 and a later pick seems to be the maximum you can get for a player. I don't think trading more than 2 years into the future is a horrible idea, just probably not needed in the current AFL landscape.

I gotta say, this game just looks so damn crisp, I love it

More sponsors around the ground this time compared to Live 1 makes it seem more real.
