Everyone is going on about the Vic bias and the GF being played at the MCG.

Well, heres a little fact convieniently ignored.

If Sydney makes the GF this year (very likely), that will be 8 times since the AFL started. More than any other side. Where's the disadvantage?

Maybe some of the lesser Melb clubs (saints) and interstate teams should focus their anger on the AFL and their pro bias towards Sydney instead of trying to change the father/son rule

You can't argue that there is a Vic bias for Grand Finalists, where Vic teams get to play on a very familiar deck without travelling, and interstate teams don't. To argue otherwise is silly.

Swans have played in 8. We’ve played in 7. There’s not that much difference?

The Swans’ advantage is that they are outside of the AFL bubble, which would be very attractive to many players, and they have a happy clappy supporter base who - win, lose, or draw; in sickness and in health - will sing “Sweet Caroline” and unconditionally support their team no matter what.

They’ve won 2/8, we’ve won 3/7.

The disadvantage faced by interstate teams is real, however it's not equal among all interstate teams.

In order of disadvantage, I'd have the WA teams, SA teams, Qld teams and then the NSW teams (although there's probably little to separate the northern state teams).

The WA teams are significantly disadvantaged in comparison to the others based on their location. SA teams are less disadvantaged and also enjoy an additional home game due to the AFL's greed and refusal to play a Showdown during Gather Round.

Further inequalities exist through the Academy bidding systems, as well as the AFL's concocted fixture, which doesn't do much to attempt to alleviate the inherent travel-based inequality.

The most annoying thing for me however is the constant focus on Collingwood when inequality is raised. Yes, we play 14 games at the MCG this season, but so do Richmond and Melbourne. Carlton plays 9 games at the MCG and 8 at Marvel this season, while Essendon plays 8 at the MCG and 9 at Marvel.

With respect to Marvel home games, Melbourne don't play a home game at Marvel and Richmond plays host to St Kilda. Conversely, we play 3, 2 of which are home games including 1 against a tenant club.

So…..
Storm are disadvantaged by having the GF in Sydney?
They’ve done fairly well despite that. And I’ve yet to see them whinge about it.
This is what the interstate AFL teams signed up for. Just like Storm signed up for.
The GF at the G isn’t going anywhere in the short term.

2059!
I’ll be 98 and looking forward to sweet 36…

They've made the GF a lot but lost the vast majority at the MCG.

If the Grand Final was at the SCG sometimes, they would have won more.

It's funny that in the talk of the advantage Victorian clubs have nobody mentions the huge home ground advantage that Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide teams have in the years that they are strong. This ensures that they get an assured finals spot, because when they have good teams they rarely lose at home, which means about 10 wins in the kitty. Other clubs, without the supporter dominance at home, are not so well placed. They still have to have good teams, as does any grand final club.
The MCG is a venue that can contain the crowd that wants to be there for the final. There is nowhere else that comes close. As I recall, the Perth stadium was built to the same on field dimensions to replicate the playing conditions to minimize the MCG advantage. Perhaps Sydney should have got the same message.
