2 big matches this week in the 4s
Yass v Woden and Us v Anu

Woden are looking really good this year. Was not expecting them to touch up Goulburn like that. Should be a really good game against Yass in Yass always hard to win there.
Will also be a good game for the cats against ANU. After playing 3 of the bottom teams should be able to get a read on how well they are travelling. Should be a good game with the Googong against Goulburn if Googong get up will that be the first time they would have beaten Goulburn?

I think 4 of the 5 games this weekend could go either way.

Googong beat us in 2016 quite well. Disappointing the boys folded up on the weekend, look forward to the return trip. I think the guys might have a tough session ahead of them and something to prove on the weekend.

Very interesting so far I’ve thought even in the 1s and 2s. Belconnen very strong at the top and good to see the Jets closing the gap in both grades.

Woden looking the club to beat in both grades although I still think Yass should be too strong in 4s, once again wondering why they continue to play in that grade after featuring in so many grand finals. Heard they were the ones originally blowing up at the start of the year to have Belconnen play in 3s and then they sit pretty in 4s. Seriously nearly think the comp should be sending that Belconnen side back down to 4s. ANU need to keep winning until they go on holidays, I’d expect they are gonna drop off again as they always do when holidays come into play for the students.

Hey hammo firstly I for one would like to see Yass move up to the threes , big step I know but have to start looking long term . Secondly Yass never offered an opinion on Belconnen playing threes or fours . Other club reps were greatly concerned that Belconnen would be dropping twos players to fours , and that was the biggest reason behind them being placed in threes ,I also agree with you that they should be in fours .

As much as i would love to see teams push into a higher grade I do not think that Yass, Goulburn or Cooma (being the only single team clubs in 4's)would benefit at present from going into the 4's comp. Long term it could be something that could be looked at if they had the players and finances behind them to take the next step. I know it was something the cats looked at doing a few years back but eventually fell short due to the lack of players.

With Belconnen although it sucks that they cop a belting from time to time they will have to tough it out same as the Hawks had to for many years. I remember them getting multiple 150+ beltings before they were finally able to drop to 4's and become competitive.

In my opinion I am really happy with how they have structured the comp in the lower grades this year.

Pretty sure Yass were asked to go up at one of the community meetings but apparently had a lot of retirements and long term injuries after the GF? Hard to see them anywhere but 3s next year given their performances over the last few years.

Agree above with Whistling Willy, tough as it might be for Belco in 3s at the moment, their 1s and 2s are undefeated. Got to start somewhere, every team will go through peaks and troughs (look at our 4s at the moment). Interestingly there's no chat about Eastlake being hard done by going straight into 3s. I think the league has approached it the right way having the big Canberra clubs enter teams from the top down.

Bit of a stretch to draw comparisons with Tuggeranong pre/post NEAFL and current situation with Belconnen in the 3s. And what is the end result of all that time Tuggeranong spent getting pounded in 3s? Eventually dropped to 4th grade and then no 3s or 4s, excellent. If that's the result Canberra AFL want in regard to Belconnen they are going the right way about it.

At the community meeting last year Belconnen requested to be in 3s as it was easier to transition players from 2s to 3s instead of 4s so it was their decision not the leagues to put them up

I'm not sure why anyone should be put up. The divs are where they should be i reckon even with coota coming back. The grade is great. The only thing is love to see is some kind of split come late season or finals where the bottom 4 or so teams (always seems to be the same 4) splitoff and playoff for something else. Keep the interest in the struggling teams

And now they rest the twos not selected and leave the threes coach to ring around and find a team

Not that much of a stretch actually. Post their stint in the NEAFL the Hawks were sitting up near the top of the ladder in both grades very similar to where the 2 Belconnen teams currently sit. Difference is that Belconnen aren't playing against weaker teams like the Hawks were being every other club still had a NEAFL team and the Hawks did not.

Belconnens 3's have come up against Woden, ANU both who will be there at the very pointy end of the season. And Coota at Coota and did not take a full 22 down there. I do not think you can read too much into how weak or strong Belconnen are from that. When they come up against some of the weaker teams or play Coota at home I am sure that they will be able to get a few wins this season.

Very confused to why everyone is comparing Belconnen and Tuggeranong. Two vastly different aspects and clubs we are dealing with here.

Understand Belconnen tough ask in 3s and I don’t think they could’ve started with a tougher run this year but hopefully for there sake they start to bring it together. They have googong then Eastlake so you never know what will happen but we will know more about them atleast after this weekend. Agree with southcab though, heard they’ve had 18s doubling up on games and no 2s dropping down which was the whole point of them playing 3s wasn’t it...

I still stick to my stance that Yass should be in 3s and reckon they could be good enough. It’s fantastic to see country towns like Coota in the 3s.

Why is there a bye round soon...but then the next weekend is a long weekend and it's a normal round?
Surely you make the bye round on the long weekend?

Yeah bit odd.

Looking forward to going for a look at ANU games this weekend. Should be a cracker in 4s, and interesting in the 3s. Eastlake probably a bit better than their scorelines have indicated, and ANU 3s only just squeezed past Googong last weekend.

and the outcome of the Tuggeranong 3s/4s team you left out?

They spent the past 3-4 years in 4th grade so them getting thumped every year before that had little to do with the eventual loss of players at the club. When they were in 4's 2 years ago they were really competitive in the first few weeks until the higher grade got injuries and their depth players were taken up.

Tips for the weekend

3s:
ANU over Eastlake
Molonglo over Bay
Googong over Belco
Woden over Coota (wouldn't be shocked at an upset here, Coota got them there a couple of years ago from memory...)

4s:
Goulburn over Googong
Cooma over ANU
Woden over Yass
Bay over Molonglo

3s -
Belconnen
Molonglo
ANU
Woden

4s-
Goulburn
Cooma
Bay
Yass

I reckon Yass can get it done. Woden will have a team in Coota and may take 1 or 2 emergencies and Yass is a tough ground to play at.
Also agree I wouldnt be surprised if Coota get up as their ground is tough to win at.

Same as me mate! Think Yass may get Woden at home though.
