mmmm.... we played tuggers 3rds last season and they only had 14 0r 15 players that day- ??:thumbsdown::thumbsdown: id say only 2 or 3 were up to reserve grade footy - where are all these players going to come from -they are kidding themselves arent they???? - id say both sides will be whipping boys for that comp - they have no depth :(. is official draw out ??

Yes i agree that both sides will get flogged each week i heard that most of the marist 18s from last season will be playing there and nearly all of them think that they will be playing 1st grade i wonder if thats what the club has bargened with to get them there?

MDO lights aren't to bad, unless your vision is a tad impaired from old age.

Your idea is a good one and I made several inquiries a while back re something similar but about having a Summer League with double headers on a Saturday arvo/evening following a Friday Night game.

It has a few advantages. No other competition from a football code. It may attract players from other leagues similar to Darwin. It would attract a bigger audience both from spectators and the press.

Apparently it was a chance before I got here in 1994 but it needed the support of every club. All clubs bar Eastlake agreed on the idea so I have been told.

The only thing i could see wrong with is that the 18s and the 2s from each club wont get to play before there 1st grade side unless you started the 18s at about 4 o'clock i dont think 4 on a friday night would be possible.

I thought it was a simlpe case of Marist kids to Eastlake ?? with the odd one poached out to Qybn . St Eddies kids to Qybn with the odd one poached by Eastlake - how many went to Tuggers??

Well i heard that most of the ones that are to old for the 18s now so my guess would be about 8 or 9 :thumbsu:

What's the story about a heap of Belco boys being told they were not getting paid in 09 and cracking it and saying they would play 3rds instead?
3GM, Codola, Wonky?

I assume it was pissed talk from my correspondent, but he swore black and blue it was true.

On a serious note, it brings about questions on the leagues financial viability again. With the number of Licenced clubs really struggling at the moment, how badly are football budgets and other sponsorship budgets being cut back?

Will Ainslie be the powerhouse again, only due to the financial clout of having two massive Pokie Palaces?

York, Bunyan and S. Coate were all at third grade training for Belconnen last night. Could be a bit of truth to this.

I don't think this would be the case, the people that may drop down to 3rd grade may be the guys who are getting on in years and close to retiring or don't have to much time on the hands to commit, i don't think it would be because they are not getting paid.

Your idiot bunyan has been playing 3s for about 3 seasons because he loves to drink. York is much to good to play 3s he was probably down there for some extra fitness before the real stuff starts.

Diffrent Bunyan my friend. This one came up from Victoria, Belconnen offered him a contract and then pulled out. Problem was he had already moved up so Kris Collins offered him a peanut butter sandwich and a powerade per game to stick around and luckely enough he accepted.

York dog has received an extremely attractive offer to come to Sydney and live on my couch... rent free. We are waiting to hear from his people if he wants to accept....

Back to reality. York is way too good a footballer and a person to be associated with this dribble. York is king and will smash it next year in first grade... coin or no coin...

Go the Pies in 09.

billy neely is gonna be a huge loss for ainslie this year, thats going to put a huge dent in there premiership chances, although will free up around 45,000 in there budget. maybe one of those ex richmond boys could still be heading up there way now that that sort of cash is available?

Hey all,

I've been following this forum for a short while. It's most entertaining and quite informative.

I thought I'd join in, but I'm not hiding behind a pseudonym. I'm happy for you to know who I am.

I've noticed the occasional comment about umpires. Any of you who know me might be aware that after retiring from playing a few years ago I've now joined the dark side and become an umpire.

My motivation for becoming an umpire was a desire to get back on the footy field to have a run around. But I knew I had become too old, slow and fragile to play the game any more so umpiring was the logical choice. Some of you might say I was old, slow and fragile a long time before I actually gave the game away!!

It's been enjoyable having a look at our great game from a different perspective, getting to know how others think about the game, learning how and why rules are interpretted in a particular way, getting accustomed to running to completely different positions than you would as a player and generally giving back to the game in a way not many players get to do.

If there's anyone out there thinking about retiring or has recently retired, if you've just about succumbed to those injuries that have dogged you for the last few years or if you are just looking for a way to keep fit I'd highly recommend giving umpiring a go. As one of my current umpiring colleagues said "ex-players make good umpires...we just have to teach them the rules first".

Anyway, from a former player and coach's perspective I'm happy to answer any questions you might have about the transition to umpiring and would wlecome any of you at training, which at the moment is one run a week but will move to Tuesdays and Thursdays as from 5 Feb.

Not to say it isn't going to happen Beans, but I have "nearly" won lotto and I am "poised" to retire.
Reading the article there seems to be the small matter of him actually putting pen to paper.:D

Signed by Eastlake. Everyone throws stupid figures around but I have it that it's over $1000 a game.

And thats one of the stupidest. Lets put things into perspective, he spent a year on a rookie list and played in this comp anyway, where he wasnt a dominant player. He just isn't worth that kind of money.

you are way off EF!:) in AFL Canberra if you have 'ex AFL listed' next to your name then you can double your match fees. Football Managers in canberra salivate over signing these guys - it gives them a 'big fish' to take back to their committees. @ 18 to 20 games that Eastlake play this year he will not be the highest paid there by a long way!!! They are building a nice list currently - with many ex AFL listers _ Rogers,J Stiller, Bruce,Clarke, Gibson & with junior rep talent like Van muers , X mcMahon , Gumleys etc... I hate to say it but watch out for Demons in 09:thumbsdown: !!

Guys I can't see this being possible. An ex rookie listed kid giving up his afl ambitions to play for $1000.00 a game when his team mates are on double that? Eastlake are rivalling ainslie with full time staff and paying extraordinary amounts of money for a semi professional sporting competition. If Gibson deal is worth $40,000.00 why would Bruce settle for less?

Looks like magpies and queanbeyan might be falling behind ainslie and eastlake in terms of player payments

Wonky,

Bruce was delisted - he didnt give up:confused:

why move to adelaide or perth to start all over again when you can return to where you grew up with family & friends and earn $20K as a footballer when you are 20 yrs old .

I think Neely to Lavington is a done deal.

I agree Codola,
Although I dunno if Lavi could afford the same coin (that Neely was rumoured to be on at the Tricolours).
The story I heard was that Brett Sanson took off with a heap of Lavi's money to fund a "retirement" in Europe - very similar to Mr Skase!!!! Mind you, Boxhead is apparently back in Albury via extradition laws and is currently working as a male gigolo in Drome St to pay back the $$$. Thus far he has not made much money.:D

belco may be paying there players less but they are putting more money into support staff ie. dietician, to get more out of there players. it makes sense, what you pay a dietician for the whole senior list wont get you much of a player. so as far as value for money goes its a good move

Hilarious!

Rumour has it that his first customer will be a visitor from Canberra, a troubled sole looking for some man-love, Wally is his code name apparently.
