Re: Afl canberra part 3

Lets be honest about Manuka tho.

For a player it is a fantastic venue, but it leaves alot to be desired for spectators.

Parking is woeful, catering spots are few and far between which usually means they run out very early, amenities are below par at best.

All these thing are fine when we have small crowds at local games but are far from satifactory when we have AFL games in Canberra.

We need alot of money to upgrade the public facilities and ACT stuffed up big time when we made Bruce stadium a rectangle ground to cater for the Olympic soccer in 2000. DUMB!

Just my opinion.

Spot on there ABH. Personally for footy in canberra I would have prefered if the old Footy Park was still around. Probably not up to scratch as an AFL venue but would still be the best option for AFL canberra finals. I think it is a carpark now?

On another topic, with GWS entering the AFL in 2012, where do people think their 'reserves' will play? Would they enter AFL Canberra? I think if this happened the quality of the AFL Canberra comp would rise dramatically, especially if players might see a pathway between playing in canberra and getting a shot at the AFL (similar to SANFL, WAFL).

it looks like both the Swans ressies and the GWS ressies will be playing in another comp all together.
Would weaken AFL Canberra considerably.

Re: Afl canberra part 3

How can I be a troll when I lived there for 5 years and know exactly the way the AFL is treated and respected there.

The AFL (VFL) should have had a club there back in the 80's but then again thats easy in hindsight.

Canberra people (majority) do not want or respect the AFL. Sure so does QLD and NSW however, Canberra cannot sustain a club given its population and playing games there is just plain sad.

Manuka is a hole of place to live let alone play a game there.

The ground is as cold as the people that inhabit the place.

Im not telling people not to visit there for the experience of viewing Australia's history but as a place to live. I would rather not! I couldnt imagine any AFL player wanting to go and live there! Thats where the biggest problem will be if they ever establish a club there!

Blah blah blah, all this dribble from an Adelaide supporter? Have you been to your fair city lately? People leaving in droves, bored youth, no water, etc etc.

We are wondering what bought on this attack? If your referring to Ainslie chasing ex-crow Rob Shirley for ridiculous amounts of money ($75k or there abouts) then we have a small insight into your opinion however most clubs in Canberra aren’t chasing AFL experienced players to play or live here.

Are you Rob Shirley wife? If so maybe address your attacks to manager@ainsliefootball.com

At the moment we know a AFL side couldn’t be sustained here so leave you boring Canberra bashing for another site, maybe the Adelaide Crows site where they talk about the late 90s a lot.

Curiously enough that was the last time Ainslie were relevant at all ...

Re: Afl canberra part 3

what is the latest on the ainslie movements? and whats the go at tuggers, have they got a coach?

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Had mail that Robert Shirley was training with the Tri Colors so i thought id go and have a gander for myself.

Took me a while to pick him out, going under the radar nicely and if dosent get picked up in either drafts, will be a huge get for Ainslie.

I think its pretty much a done deal key position, Rob's drawn the curtains on his AFL days as far as i know. He's already lost a bit of the AFL bulk you get from being in the gym all the time, so he'll probably gain a yard of pace too. :thumbsu:

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Wont mean he will be a force in this comp....Many an AFL player have come here and not performed up to scratch....Matt Larkin, Brett Heaver come to mind immediately

hahaha - listen to negative nelly here. I'm pretty sure he'll be able to get a kick in Canberra mate. Are you a midfielder in the ACT worried about getting taken to the cleaners? :D

Re: Afl canberra part 3

Nathan Clarke signed and sealed out our way. Assistant coach - non playing from the looks of the web article.

I've heard Shirley is having a sit down this evening with Ainslie trying to work through the finer details. He's a lot younger than Heaver and Larkin were when they come up here but he's not as good a player as them either. Will be interesting to see how he pans out.

no he isn’t he is none other then 1998 Alex - Jezza medallist so scram J- Train.

I wonder if they will make Shirley captain like they do every other good player they buy. Neely, Lewis, Inkster, etc.

where has AFC 1 gone in all of this? was he the one sending extremely obnoxious text messages to Ryan Lewis after his departure? Text message that basically said “f* off you worthless …”

Shirley makes sense given Inkster will take over captaincy and they would have played together at Eagles - it s great for the comp - well done AFC

also Eastlake must have the cheque book out trying to replace up to 10 of their best 22 from 2009.

havent heard anymore on Tuggers coach? think they might be hoping Santa has a big sack and drops a coach on the doorstep at Greenway

Belco have snared another sacked coach and a prospective one from out of the hands of the battlers down south - :thumbsu: they do something right out there!!

Qybn very quiet other than small midfield recruit from VFL - Toby ??

Ainslie shaping nicely with Inkster,Shirley to lead from front - good luck to Jason Tutt tomorrow:D

Swans - big preseason happening, injuries and old players gone - watch out I say in 2010 despite the on field restrictions.

Good for him, doesn't mean he gets to write off Shirley as a player in the Canberra competition before a ball has even been kicked in anger. ;)

Hey J Tram,

He wasnt writing him off, simply stating a fact that alot of ex AFL players have arrived with big wraps and not fired a shot!

all the best to him and its great for the comp to have him here:thumbsu:

Hi all,

Latest on Tuggers coach is a sighting at Hyperdome foodcourt of Sean Clarke ( ex Eastlake defender) talking numbers with the Tuggers officials given his likely exit from EFC. Mind you this info is about 5th hand and 3rd hand is dodgy source !!!

anyone else on this bandwagon?

No doubt, and he'll probably take a game or two to settle in but I think he'll have a positive influence on his new club in a number of ways re: training and preparation, tactics and hard ball winning ability. Not being a smart prick but coming straight off the Crows list into regional footy in Canberra will be a huge drop in class/intensity.
