I live in Perth and I bought Foxtel IQHD the whole box and dice, so I can watch AFL football mainly.

As a Carlton supportere, just in the last couple of weeks, we did not get any live coverage of Carlton Collingwood, and wont get Carlton Hawthorn this week, but we will get to have a live broadcast of the Eagles Saints game on Free to air, AND on Foxtel. I am so sick of it, viewers in NSW and QLD get better AFL coverage that WA. Every weekend at least one game is not shown in WA.

It is pathetic.

Does anyone have an email address for someone from the AFL who I can write to?

And I encourage other footy supporters in WA to do the same.

It would be like if you lived in Melbourne and you could only watch Melbourne team games......it is a JOKE.

Ever since Foxtel got rights it has wreaked the coverage of AFL. But in saying that I am getting Foxtel put up tomorrow or Friday so I am ecited about seeing more games LIVE

It's due to anti-siphoning laws. It has nothing to do with the AFL.

I hear you. This is a constant issue with Carlton/Collingwood games (as once a year they clash with Freo/West Coast games.

I even contacted a few journalists a while back to try and get this on the agenda (i thought at least one of them would see and easy article in it) but nothing came of it.

Hopefully with the new digital stations, this will change the nature of the next broadcasting rights. My understanding is that Foxtel's purchasing of games is essentially the result of FTA networks not being able to guarantee showing all games. Surely this will no longer the case.

I do find it highly frustrating (as do many of my friends) that we can't watch certain games each week because one network is showing the game live, the other is showing it on a 30 minute delay and the stadium it's being played in has 5,000-10,000 empty seats. The arrangement here is clearly not to promote football, but to promote the local teams.

It's due to anti-siphoning laws. It has nothing to do with the AFL.

It has everything to do with the AFL. They were the ones who made it so the local teams must be shown on FTA and did nothing about allowing Foxtel to show the alternate game on Foxtel like it was in the previous rights deal.

It is aweful, got the same problem in SA with Hawthorn and Kangaroos games, there is always something that cna be done about it. It is the willingness that is the problem.

What does this mean? Do these anti-siphoning laws not apply in other states? In Sydney this weekend you can watch all eight games live (provided you have Foxtel).

This week is even more frustrating as Channel Seven is showing the Eagles game on a half hour delay, starts at 3:00pm Perth time which means it can show Haw V Carl Live from 12:00pm. Instead they are putting on footy flashbacks at 2:00pm (which is an old Haw V Carl game - brilliant)!

It's a joke!

i don't think fox/afl would allow ch7 to show it live, as you get one & give 1 away

most of the time you can watch it on the main event channel, unless they have a boxing thing on!!

Its not the anti-siphoning laws, the previous rights agreement had a workaround.

Probably should lobby Foxtel. I would subscribe if they fixed this issue.

Actually in Queensland, the earliest showing of the Carlton vs Hawthorn game is 7:30 on FS1. Last week it was the same story with the Carlton vs Port Adelaide game. Luckily the Government is on our side, and soon with the introduction of a "use it or lose it" law, TV stations will no longer be able to block live matches. :thumbsu:

JOKE

Collingwood V Geelong live into Melbourne now, WA still starts 3 hrs after

Carlton V Hawthorn shown at 11.59pm Sunday night, when there is a suitable spot live just before the Eagles V Saints game

Channel 7 can move broadcast times when they want to, and the times they could (and wont) are a slap in the face.

They claim Better Homes rates higher than the footy, so we have to wait. Yet on a Thursday they have Vicker of Dibley that's on it's 103rd run.

I always hope to see Foxtel next to St Kilda games so I know I am getting it live. The delays and no shows by Seven and on occassions One is pathetic.

I just wish 7 was not involved at all, notice that every single problem so far relates to Sunday and Friday games.

Between One and Ten they show their games, normally Live. Channel 7 only ever show games live on Sunday if the Eagles or Freo are involved, rarely show both their games they had to have so they can instead show footy flashbacks...

Surely One would be willing to show the Friday Night game live? Why not give it to someone who will show it to the people?

It is not a Foxtel game champ, so how can they influence when Channel Seven show it. And why would the AFL not allow it???

I would have thought Channel Seven can show it whenever they like, in this case at 11:59pm Perth time.
I read somewhere on BF last month that, if ch7/10 show a fox game (home team playing) that the loses the right to show their game they broadcast live or near live into that city

It is crap. I did read in the Advertiser a couple months ago foxtel agreed to show the other game on mainevent if there was a clash but yet still nothing.

Last week proved that they can't keep using that excuse as the Freo vs Collingwood game got 315k in the ratings into Perth when shown at 7pm.

The week before Home & Away got 124k, Better Homes Than Yours got 149k and the footy at 8:30 got 115k but finished near midnight.

315k absolutely flogged what H&A/BHTY normally get and because they show the footy on a 3 hr delay they only get about 35% of what they could get if they showed it at 7pm or maybe 6:30pm if we're lucky.

Yep, couldn't agree more...for all the BS the AFL go on about oohhh soccer might take us over and little johnny's mum wouldn't approve they have no idea. Friday night footy is pumped up to be this huge thing with the "big" games on Friday night. But in reality they may as well play the 1980's replays then coz by the time the game starts...8:45 if ya lucky then half time at 10:30, finishes at 11:45 ish...how are the young kids going to watch that. Its a night where they don't have school the next day and could stay up a little later and see the footy, but no the AFL and seven put it on that late that I'm struggling to stay up to see to the end.(having to work Saturday) But on the flip side the kids can watch bloody all day soccer on SBS on Sunday. Move the Home shows crap to another slot, maybe Saturday morning on Thursday night...and get rid of TODAY TONIGHT FFS...I'm sure we can cope if that crap has 1 night a week off, and show the footy at 6:30 or 7pm after the news, every week !!!
Just piss poor admin from the AFL AGAIN, just ruining the game.

I would never see NMFC without Foxtel.I never stay up late and watch the Fri night game. Why we have to wait 31/2 hours is mindblowing. The AFL has to fix this and get it right.

To who?

That would only make sense if another network had the right to show it.

But in saying that, Conroy just signed off on SBS showing World Cup games on SBS 2, why the hell can't he do it for the occasional AFL game to be shown on 7 Two?
