AFL Draft in Prime Time

Jeffrey was the funniest mofo ever.

I really think someone needs to compile all of Jeffrey's posts into a single thread and sticky it somewhere. I nearly peed my pants with laughter reading the posts quoted above.:thumbsu:

I'd watch it because I always enjoy watching the NBA draft. I don't see the need to countdown though.
So do I, but there is no comparison.

1. Very few of us watch the TAC cup, millions watch college basketball and are very familiar with the players.

2. This proposed version is entirely contrived, the NBA version is happening in real time.

3. Many watch the NBA draft to see the accompanying trades that take place. This wont happen in the AFL version.

4. Many also watch the NBA draft for the side issues (fashion, the whinging of players left undrafted, trying to spot a player with 2 parents). Id bet the AFL version is watered down corporate crap

The clubs take the picks in regular order under AFL supervision as per normal draft, then we come in at 6:30, start the draft from 10-1 and bobs your uncle.
Thats just pathectic were going to know whos goes number 1 before its actually broadcast - the team with the tenth pick will feel like number 1.

Like the prime time idea. Not the countdown. Just go in regular order.

Otherwise, just do 20-1, get Bert Newton to host it and get some B-Grade celebrities to comment on each selected player.

Random celebrities would probably know more then the Lyon, Wilson and the rest of the chumps on Monday nights

Fox Footy did it very well one year before the AFL moved it to a live internet webcast.

Had plenty of interviews with draftees, coaches, recruiting mgrs and some clips of the more highly rated players.

If there was a vote I would like to see it counted down rather than up.

Shows how bored so many fans are with the actual game itself that people would tune in to watch some pus-headed teenager get drafted by an AFL team because his vertical leap is good, has low skin folds and Ricky Nixon reckons 'he will be a beauty'.

Each team has a long telescopic pointer. If a club reads out the name of a player that another team wants to draft later, that team subtly taps the guy reading the name out on the head with the pointer and he reads another name.

Probably one of the funniest things written. funnier still was the fact some people though he was serious

Love the idea minus the counting up.

If it does well I would be interested to see if the AFL sell the rights to one of the free-to-air stations.

Would make awesome TV... Would be just like the Brownlow count except for......
  • No highlights footage...
  • No players Wives/Slapper of the night/Girlfiriends to perve on...
  • No hall of fame induction...
  • No current players...
  • No past players...
  • Done at a time of year when the last thing on you mind is footy.
Sounds like a real ratings winner....

Then again, if Dimwit isn't calling the names, it's entertainment value just went up 50%!! :D

i will watch this.

And to the doubters who say it will be boring TV – how will this show be any different to watching and ‘league teams’ tonight on Foxtel? This is not exactly the most reverting TV show on but people watch it.

The draft show is about communicating information to football fans exactly the same as ‘league teams’ is, expect you’re more than likely have never heard of the kid getting drafted.
