Always good to have a general fantasy discussion page.

I was hoping they might look to spice up some rules this season but looks the same, feel like the game has got a touch stale. Would love for there to be some position changes like AFL Fantasy has but not to be! Still the real fantasy comp so it'll be the one I waste most of my time on yet again regardless of the above.

Hopefully we have enough numbers for a league or two, will jump in one, didn't participate last year but happy to fill a space if we do get the numbers.

I think a lot of people not only lost interest in DT last year, but the AFL itself. This site will never again be what it was like a few years ago, which is a shame.
Not sure who is planning on organising the leagues this year but if no-one puts their hand up, I'll give it a go.

Yeah just go ahead and make one. I remember the years when it used to be a real pain organising the teams, Pups would have a system in place where you HAD to give your team name and everything before getting PM'd the code. Should be pretty straightforward this year, just post the code in this thread

Not sure but I think we need 10 teams minimum in a league. At least anyone joining this year must really like getting punished by this game, so we should have a competitive league with no ghost ships hopefully. Maybe I might try convincing some guys in the AF board to join.

I'd still like to make a thread for those who wish to be in a league, Never know, we might get more than we think.
Will create this now.

I'll be really pissed off if the AFL don't release all squads on Thursday nights as has been the case for decades. The practice of naming teams the night before the game as they did last year was horrible.

I totally f@#ked this up. One night after a few beers I sent out invitations to the league thinking it was a different league. 9 have already joined.

You basically just invited everyone who was in last year's div 1 2020 league to rejoin that league. I suggest just making a new "div 1 2021" league now

Port Adelaide had their Internal trial this morning. The whole game was streamed via the Port website.

RDT relevant.

Ollie Wines - Has trimmed down and looks to be primed for a big year. His second half of the season was sensational last year. Kicks goals which is a bonus for a mid. My M3.
Connor Rozee - Kicked 6 goals and played half forward with quite a bit of midfield time including plenty of centre bounces. :padlock:
Zac Butters - Close to best player on the ground. Plenty of centre bounce attendances and lots of possessions around the ground. I've got him in my side at this stage.
Miles Bergman - 1st rounder from 2019 who was emergency several times last year, so still rookie priced. One of the best players off half back. Exciting player. My F8.
Lachlan Jones - Looked off the pace in the first half. Better second half. Not sure he'll be in the 22 come round 1. :(

Ask the question of anyone else and I'll try to answer.

Disappointed with the Jones comment. Might have to look for another D6.
Rozee or Phillips. I think both will improve by 20 or so on last year but I only have room for one.

To all the Hawthorn people out there. Surely McEvoy will take the role as R1 this year even more so now that he has been appointed captain?

Jones was my D5, with Gould D6. Not sure that'll work. He is though in the mix. He played on the 'Black' side which for all intents and purposes was the best 25 team, so who knows.

A lot of people begrudge the fact that we are only going to have one practice match this year but I don't see it makes a lot of difference. In previous years, clubs have played a heap of kids in the earlier game(s) and then their expected round 1 team in the final match. This year they will simply go to their predicted round 1 team straight away.

It's a little bit of a concern that of the top 3 DT scoring teams last year (Geelong, Port and Collingwood), I only have one starting player.

Ceglar will be the starting ruck unfortunately...Clarko’s lost it..McEvoy will start in the backline and will also spend time forward...he will only play 15-20% ruck when Ceglar has a rest.

Is what we saw from Hind on Saturday the real deal or just fool's gold?

I reckon Hind is for real myself. Based largely on some Bomber supporter mates who think he's been recruited to replace Saad and will do it better. He's not in mine right now but I'm thinking about it for sure.

The rucks thing is bugging me out a lot though. I've currently got Gawn and Grundy but have also had English and Witts in there too. I really wonder if the new rules will impact the rucks.

Gawn isn’t going to be scoring his 130+ this season like previous years...he will spend a lot more tome forward especially with Ben brown and Sam weideman out for the first 4-6 weeks..they will also want to develop Luke Jackson, who will play more ruck.

The Gawn and grundy combo is as risky as it ever will be..however, the ruck depth this season is as bad as it’s ever been..Adelaide are going to be pathetic, so O’Brien may struggle, Goldstein is getting old...Witts could be worth the gamble at his price IMO and should average 90, which at his price you take a any day

Agree with all that.

I like Witts as he's not sharing with anyone. Durability an issue but at his price not a huge bounce over to Lycett or someone else solid but vanilla if I get caught.

I really wonder if the rule change has impacted or not which to me makes me want to go with 2 first pick slightly underpriced guys, keep some more coin in the bank and then wait and see. Guys like Witts, English, Lycett etc to me aren't going to lose or make a heap whereas Gawn and Grundy lose massive if the game has changed and ruck scores go down across the board.

On the other hand, maybe the premo price in a depressed market will be more worth it to insulate against the gap in not having them.

Witts absolutely burnt me last year and yes I know he wasn't a 100% etc but it so hard to 'go back there'! I think English could well benefit the addition of Martin to the Rucks. Martin can do the grunt work and English can roam around and do stuff (hopefully). I currently don't have either but this position is literally doing my head in. It really changes the whole structure and feel of your team depending which way you go.

I'm in the exact same boat... it's a nightmare deciding who to choose if you only go one... if i pick gawn, grundy will dominate and if i pick grundy, gawn will dominate... having one + a Witts type frees up so much extra $$$ to upgrade a mid pricer or rookie...

There appears to be value across all other lines to varying degrees. So are there really value picks in the rucks, enough to justify them starting on the field? Some will say the value is just going Gawn/Grundy so you don't have to use trades to get them later and you can just focus on cash generation across the other lines?
