AFL Fixture 2025

It is kinda bullshit that Sydney and Geelong have an easier fixture than North.

Based on a bullshit Fox Footy metrics - take a look at Sydney's double ups - they don't remotely have an easy fixture on paper.

They’ve got the previous seasons wooden spooners in the last round at home back to back seasons now.
They get looked after by headquarters every year
Anyone can look at positives and negative of every clubs draw..

WGAF that geelong get Richmond in the last week.

This is a cracking draw!

3 middling teams and three tough teams. Not a bad result considering we finished 6th. Loads of primetime slots and only ONE 5 day break!!

We avoid double ups against recent bogey sides in GC, GWS, Ess, Syd and Geelong. Two mcg games against the draw card pies and 2 against the death riding blues.

Im over the moon.

Going off recent history and ignoring the real crap teams, we match up well against Brisbane, Collingwood and Carlton. Getting those 3 twice is great

I'm really struggling to find a major negative with this draw.

Even playing Port in tassie. They are a team who uses the crowd and the 'story' to their advantage. Playing them I front of a small crowd in tas instead of the mcg cauldron mitigates that somewhat

You've go to be one pessimistic, grumpy sod to be unhappy with this!

If we're going to have a big stretch during the season where we don't play any home games in Melbourne then I'm glad it's during June and July when it's the most bitterly cold anyway.

I'm reasonably happy with our draw and looking forward to the better time slots. What I'm not happy about is Carlton's draw getting to play the roos and west coast twice . I was looking forward to death riding them all next year and thinking there would be a really decent chance of a top 6 pick but now I'm not sure. Don't mind if we trade their future 1st now on draft night if something comes up we like.

Collingwood 14 MCG games (9 home games)
Richmond 12 MCG games (10 MCG home games)
Melbourne 12 MCG games (9 home games)
Carlton 11 MCG games (6 home games)
Hawthorn 10 MCG games (6 home games)
Essendon 7 MCG games (5 home games)
Geelong 5 MCG games (1 home games)

About the best we could hope for, but I would like to see us get 12 MCG home and away games like the pure MCG tenants

When I look at the fixture I always ignore the home and away element with games at the MCG. We sell 4 games to Tassie and that always buggers up our home MCG allotment and throws them all over the place. The fact that I can go to the G and watch us 7 times in the opening 12 rounds and then 3 times in the final 5 rounds makes up for the fact that I have to endure going to Marvel twice in the winter months. The worst stretch is the month we don't play in Melbourne but I can live with that.

And to people bent out of shape about the Port game in Launceston. My suggestion - when we play the Lions here in May make sure you get out in big numbers and get at least 60,000 to the game. If you don't - expect more and more interstate teams to play us at Marvel or UTAS.

Hawthorn v Port would easily drawn 30,000 plus at Marvel which is completely okay. If it’s good enough for Collingwood, Carlton and Essendon it’s good enough for us.

Lots of night games - love it. We sell games to Tassie so we have to accept we're not getting as many games at the G as we want.

Melbourne are about to drop like a rock so getting them twice is positive. I don' think Collingwood have much improvement on last year either. I'm happy with our double ups.

To get a better read on fixture difficulty, I always check to see when and who our opposition played the week before. After checking the first 7 rounds every other opponent gets an easier game and longer break than we do leading into a game except the Port game where we come off a bye but they have a full 7 day break regardless.

The only thing I can see being an issue with the draw is that once again it's a very tough first five weeks and we have not been a team that starts well in recent history.

Getting double ups against the Pies, Brisbane and Carlton though is very good as the first two are our bunnies and I think Carlton will crash and burn next year.

We just need to hit the ground running round 1, that's got to be the priority.

This is pretty much it. If you’re ever confused why things are the way they are just follow the money trail.

It’s a recipe for disaster if we got to round 18-19 and port or us are lingering in the bottom half of the ladder. Its 30k in a 100k stadium
Port don’t deserve to play Hawthorn at the MCG.

Hawks 10 MCG games are;

Essendon
Carlton
Richmond
Geelong

Brisbane
Collingwood

That is a cracking set of MCG games.
