Won't be following the AFL if international teams are introduced, what garbage that would be !!

Just out of curiosity GFC123, why such strong opposition to the mere thought of overseas teams in the AFL?

Would you really stop following the Cats just because there happened to be teams called the New Zealand Rams and the South Africa Rhinos playing in the AFL?

You do realise WCE/Freo are the closest AFL clubs to South Africa don't you? California on the other hand, and maybe you have a point, but even still that would only be once per year..

I think he meant that if the Perth-Melbourne trip can have such a big impact on west coast and freo players, travelling from RSA to melb a few times a year (surely they couldn't make them travel every second week) would have a massive effect on the durability of the south african players.

i reckon they'll give an NZ team a crack for sure.

it obviously depends on what happens in the next 10 to 15 years (and further beyond) but i reckon the next port of call for expansion will be third perth team and tasmania.

then NZ and somewhere else will be after.

south africa would make the logistics of it very difficult and in any case i can't see the game taking off that much but you never know what could happen over the next half a century.

one of the reasons south africa works in the super 15 is because there are five teams there so they can get tours out of the way in one hit of 2 or 3 weeks.

it would be redicolous having teams fly over for a game and then flying straight back having to adapt to two 7 or 8 hour time zone differences within about 4 days.

and also the arrangments for south african team would be a shocker. they can't do a wce and freo and alternate home and away. they're body clocks would be pretty much completely rearranged by the end of the season. plus you couldn't have them doing their tours in one or two hits. can't expect them to live overseas for 11 weeks, or even 5 or 6 weeks. 3 to 4 weeks isn't too bad, but doing that 3 times a year - one would get jack of that pretty quickly.

california would be redicolous. even if the game took off the logistics of a playing games there would be outrageous. even worse than south africa.
