Personally as a Swans AND Storm fan I am completely stoked at this! I get to support the Swans on the Friday night against the Hawks & head up to Brookvale the next night to watch Storm play Manly.

However what I'd like to know is if the NRL Doggies had the game already booked for the Friday night for their match against Penrith & have been even selling tickets on the Ticketek website, how did the AFL get their way & 'win' the Friday night time slot? How much money was handed to Todd Greenberg (Bulldogs CEO) to get them to move? Did the AFL's bullying other code win out in the end once again?

Still it works out brilliantly for the Swans & Hawthorn who now get the full break going into the finals.

People down here in Melbourne don't realise how big this is politically in terms of the Sydney sporting scene. The AFL has kicked an NRL club out of its very own stadium!

Thoughts?

JF (a dual code fan who just wants to see BOTH teams play )

Simple NRL does not pull crowds to games in Sydney. People would much rather watch it on TV. AFL on the other hand puts bums on seats at Swans games in Sydney. ANZ is the big winner out of this with a crowd 5 times the size of what the bulldogs and Penrith panthers will bring

Apparently ANZ benefit from having Canterbury relocate their game (not sure how or why)

I'm sure all 12 fans planing on going to the game that night will be devastated their NswRL game has been moved...

It's a win for the AFL in a ground clash, which is unusual. Their track record isn't very good.

The AFL's been bumped on occasions. In 2005, the Swans got bumped from ANZ in favour of a rugby test. In 2009, a NAB Cup game got bumped from Docklands in favour of an A-League game. There was the risk of being locked out of several stadiums for 2 months mid-season had the FFA's World Cup bid been successful (although Blind Freddie could see that bid was unwinnable, so it was perfectly safe to sign the MOU). And the fact that the AFL can't start the season earlier because Sheffield Shield cricket in front of crowds of 200 takes priority.
Even last year, the AFL wanted to play the prelim finals in the opposite order, but stadium availability prevented it.

With the announcement early yesterday that the cricket World Cup would impact the opening rounds of 2015, the AFL needed a win on a stadium issue. Didn't take long to get one.

Wonder if Fitzpatrick, or purely a crowd, money issue, or a combo of 3.

Is it really a win for the Swans and Swans fans though, Swans style suits small grounds, and their fans (usually) detest ANZ.

This really annoys me, the AFL have to do something about this so they can get the season started earlier. A move to a smaller stadium would also improve the sheffield shields image
