AFL Live 2

Am I the only guy who has liked the game so far?

Still room for improvement that's for sure, but I think its a great start.. Game play is good, graphics aren't horrible but the games intelligence is better now I think.

I like the new marking and goal kicking controls, they are a huge plus. Graphics probably still is a let down compared to AFL Live 1, the crowds look fantastic... from a distance, but up close.. lets just say I close my eyes after I kick a goal so I don't have to see them lol

Career mode is great!

Stadiums look great! (even the TAC/VFL grounds).. shame Simmonds hasn't got lights, but you Geelong supporters can't whine too much.. You've got a home final there this week!

They only thing that has made me a little annoyed is that for some reason the Adelaide Crows guernsey looks red, yellow and BLACK! and for some reason has the Crow logo water marked all over it?? :(

Joe Misiti as a fat ranga in AFL Live 2004 was the pinnacle

Ahhh yes I do remember that haha.

I am just astounded that they let things like that happen. Just shows how much they care about AFL I guess.

At least those of us who got it from EB Games can get a full refund. I'm sort of on the fence with it now. They have improved the gameplay but the lack of care and polish in certain areas is too hard to ignore.

Has anyone played a grand final yet? Is there at least a cut scene at the end?

Did someone in the dev team hate Misiti? Elaborate please
I think the story is that a guy on the development team was bullied by Misiti when he was younger and as a way to get back, he made him a fat ranga in the game.

From what I was told, Joe Misiti had a bit of bad history with someone on the dev team, and so they got a small bit of revenge by putting him in the game as a fat ranga.

From the vids and stuff that's been said on here, i'm liking this game it seems to flow nicely and play well with some great set shot controls but just some clunky looking animations. A few things I noticed in the vids bumping looks improved, it seems to not just stop all momentum but seems to rather knock them over or slightly off balance and a small detail the ball doesn't bounce through the stands. I really like the commentary it's not great but it flows fairly well, Tom and Dennis are a great team and like Gibbsy said there are some genuinely funny lines in here.
Fremantle fans behind the goals still wearing red and green, while the team is running around in purple.
wicked witch pls.
I criticized this when playing AFL Wii but when I thought about it it actually makes sense as you'll see fans wearing outdated guernseys and the like all over the stadium at real matches.

it's all a bit nqr...'hand balls' instead of 'handballs', 'man of the match' in 1, 2, 3 order, no theme songs, 'Game Lost!/Game Won!' hahaha looks like it could be fun though. Hopefully it's not too easy, that's the worst.

I love the bumping. If you run into another player, both of your running paths are altered but it doesn't completely throw you off course like in AFL Live 1. The close stuff feels really good.

It's really rewarding when you actually work the ball into the hands of a running target and can get a kick off to hit a target. It seems that most people just pick up the ball and kick rather than trying to work it out and using the ball effectively. Had a passage of play where I won the ball from a hitout in the backline, shot off a few handballs, managed to get the ball in the hands of a fast half-back, hit up a leading winger, chipped it forward a couple of times, spotted up a free target in the middle, gave off a handpass and hit my full forward lace out. Felt really rewarding.

Hmmm true, but in this it's every single fan in the stadium wearing red and green.

haha I was just about to ask that so in that case then yeah that's not great. Anyone know about commentary specific to your season whether they talk about how your going or what not? and any new guernseys other than 2013 ones? ( such as freos original home or adelaides' Guernsey seen in SugarShanes' avatar ?)

there are certainly some aspects of the game which are improved from AFL Live. Having said that, given the original game was released 2-3 years ago, we would certainly hope so.

+The shepherds and bumps that players do off the ball is a really good feature of the game
+Game is not a tackle-fest and it feels like you have a more realistic time on the ball

-Commentary is horrendous - way worse then AFL Live
-The sound-effects where the ball bounces and hits the ground is really annoying
-Why is there a whistle blow everytime a team scores? It seems somewhat out of place

I feel like this game has made some improvements on the original, however I think the original may have more longevity in regards to gameplay. A shame they rushed it out in a year.

The game is a huge improvement from AFL Wii and so far has been better than I expected. The control changes are still taking time to get used to (I have no idea why they didn't keep them the same, handball and goal kick being swapped is very frustrating) so it's hard for me to judge too much.
The gameplay is nowhere near as polished as AFL Live but on the plus side it makes it less predictable and timing marks and tackles changes things dramatically, at the moment I've only played easy matches so it's still hard to judge how the AI is but the AI for the interchange is almost pointless.
The goalkicking system is hard to get used to, I can't kick a goal from further out than about 35m out but I'm hoping that will just take practice, overkicking is too easy to do and it will only go about 20m in the complete wrong direction which sucks. I also don't know how to do a banana yet but curving the joystick didn't seem to work.

Exactly the same heritage guernseys as AFL Live (you have to unlock them but you can preview them all in the player creator). Which is particularly stupid for the Bulldogs. Also, Essendon's clash jumper has a huge Kia logo for some reason and watermarks are too visable.

Basically its a better version of the wii game. I started with the VFL season, my player creation was standard. Some good tatts there though. I played three games on medium difficulty. Lost the first then won the next two. Thought it was horrible the first game but then got better as you figure out the buttons. After that i played a quick 2.5min game with Melbourne vs West Coast. You could really notice the difference in skill and speed with the AFL game. Made it much better.
THe actual VFL stadium Box Hill and North Port were actually done ok. THe crowd numbers are funny one game there was a big crowd then the next they would have no one there.

We all came in to yesterday surprised because street date was broken as well as having low expectations. What it bought was an enjoyable first crack at the game and our expectations exceeded.

Fast forward maybe six hours, and i am playing off easy and on medium to hard. Difficult...yes...but this is where the flaws are seen.

On easy the game is great, flowing. As you move the difficulty up the game is terrible. I turned it off and put AFL Premiership 2007 in and they are not only identical but 2007 gameplay is better. The harder AFL Live 2, the harder it is to tackle and kick the ball....what you now get is 8 players diving to the ground at once (remember that!) and u can only kick the ball more than 8 metres if you are twenty metres away from the opposition (think there was 40 smothered kicks in a quarter and a half).

How did this game get released? Dont give me that 12 mth development crap...it didnt need development from the initial AFL Live. The match engine was perfect. In the twelve mths Big Ant would have developed new stadia, add replay (if it did not lag the game), input stats in game, and build a career mode better than the ps2 games (which wicked witch have copied pretty much identically...Ronald Mumford, Heath Liberatore and Harry Ablett went top 3 in my draft).

Lucky i enjoy playing AFL Live and have updated myself so it is not out of date.

I still dont get how the AFL, not tru blu, let this out in stores as an official AFL product. It is like them releasing a 2006 calendar for each team at christmas time this year!!!

Tru Blu have said that they will patch and the only way the game can be improved is if people point out the errors. It's not a matter of hating on the game but trying to develop it into something better.

I think our game of three years ago holds up pretty well for its time, however rather than thinking about which game is better, as clearly I cannot be objective, I'd say that the games are different and will appeal to different markets. The time and space offered by the easier levels will be exactly what the casuals will want and I can see that reflected here in the comments.

There is a general message for those emailing me and calling our office - Big Ant are not involved in the creation of the latest AFL Live 2 game, comments and enquiries need to be directed to Tru Blu/HES.
