It just seems like the EB's of Brisbane have given up before the race has even been run.

Remember that the audience is even smaller than that. We're talking about people in brisbane that actually are gamers, and that enjoy afl so much that they'd want to play a game. (I won't mention the ones that refuse to purchase games from EB, don't wanna start another war with glenno)

Based on these forums so far, I think that totals about 3 people. You, myself and one other guy.

I agree that they'd generate more interest up here by putting a poster up instore, but it's definitely not a big market. As I've posted above, I just hope nothing goes wrong with our preorders.

Once I've actually got the game it'll be a lot easier to convince other mates to get it, but that's a way off yet.

Some clarification if possible Ross....

In the FAQ; Page 1 I see this

Has a 4 v 4 Online Multi player.

4 for Xbox local - 8 online max (4 v 4)

7 for PS3 local - 8 online max (4 v 4)
In the FAQ; page 2 I see this

Private match allows you to invite friend(s) and you are able to play up to 8 players - this even gives you the ability to play 8 players against the AI. This is 4 players on each console - but you can have any combination of players on either team. This is unranked.
For the private match can we have 7 on one PS3 and 1 on the other?
I don't imagine myself ever seeing something like that but I'm just curious as to the answer.

EDIT: I'm a stupid **** actually. Just reread it.

So 4v4 is maximum for online but you can have 7 local only on PS3? Is my understanding correct?

Probably a stupid question but when the ball is on the floor do you pick it up automatically or is there a button

p.s haven't seen anyone do it can you soccer the ball in this game

It's auto.

Yes you can soccer of the ground.
To anyone who knows,
Is their a button for dodging in the game, because if their is it seems like no one is using it?
No button for dodging, but you can fend off players. (giving the 'dont argue', breaking tackles)

The play will automatically pick it up off the ground. As for the soccer u tap the kick button with a modifier I believe to soccer it off the ground but you can do it none the less.

I appreciate what you're saying, and I recognize that the market here is far narrower than inter-state, but they are really giving themselves no hope at all.

The vast, vast majority of people in Brisbane wouldn't even know this game exists, and whilst a large portion of them wouldn't care about it either, it's probably fair to assume that some of them could be interested.

The only way I can see a QLD store making any ground on this game is by advertising it. It doesn't have to be much, like you say just a couple of slicks, but that's plenty more than any store I've seen.

It just seems like the EB's of Brisbane have given up before the race has even been run.

They haven't given up, they are just playing to their strengths....

Last year while the RLL advertising was out, we had an entire bay dedicated to coming soon titles in the lead in to the Xmas rush. Space enough for 27 different titles if we wanted

Yet i only put RLL up when i ran out of boxes for other titles, and even then it was tucked in the bottom corner.

I put the stuff that was going to make me the most money in the best spots at eye level. COD, FIFA, AC BH, NFS

Why would a QLD store waste a space (now we only have space for 9 titles) on a game that might get them a few orders?

Why not leave it for:

Duke Nukem, Portal 2, Crysis 2, Red Faction, NFS Shift 2 and up until this week, Homefront, Shogun

It just wouldn't make sense from a business view

I have a big AFL presence in my store, due to it being the main game in WA, but i wouldn't expect it to take precedence in NSW or QLD. It would be a last resort "no other slicks left to put out thing"

And thats not being unfair on the AFL game itself, or not giving it a chance, its just smart

Thats understandable. My local EB (Melbourne) has like 6 covers for it in PS3, 360 n Wii total. The manager of the store has played it and he thinks its gonna be a great game he tries to get people to pre order but he says it wont be the highlight game, and it wont get the recognition it deserves to.

I'm sorry to all for hijacking the thread, so i'll keep it to this:

It'll get the recognition best in Vic, SA and WA.

It's certianly be recognised at Midland. I really hope we can get a massive crowd there

To all WA guys, will post a date and time the moment its confirmed by Ross

Starting to keep an eye on this thread as I may look to make AFL my yearly sports game purchase with Madden becoming more of a joke by EA Sports. However what looks to be the lack of a continuous franchise mode will probably make me look twice before buying it. Enjoy developing a team through drafting and trading though ten or twenty seasons.

Anyone know how the Brownlow votes are calculated? Is it strictly possession based or does the game take into account effective kicks, clangers etc. so if a guy has 20 kicks in a game but 15 of them are clangers or miss the target does that decrease his chances of getting votes?

Off topic and a couple of days late

Ahh 21st, revolving dance floor and girls of questionable morals from Langwarrin. Wonder if it's changed since? :)

OFF Topic: Spoke to someone today about it and aparently it is now a live thrash/heavy metal venue that smells like wee

Pretty much Ross. Though it does have great sound quality there. Saw Guttermouth not that long ago... very good.

Oh, and the dance floor no longer revolves!

If it starts at like 10 am and finishes at 2pm what is the best time to come because i live about an hour from midland.:)

Question for Ross if you could answer it great if not no sweat!

Q: In future versions of the game, will we expect to see things like player tendencies for each of the players? For instance what type of mark they prefer to grab or say if a player is Inside 50, the tendency to have a shot or pass it off? More likely to tag an opponent or lurk in the area ala Nick Maxwell?

Thanks

Hold sqaure to kick towards goal or X to kick it. (not sure if it aims for a player as its the pass button or just in front of you)

Have any individual players rack up a ton of disposals in any of the games played?

I suppose it is hard with only 3 minute quarters. Would changing quarters to say 10 minutes give more realistic disposal counts but the trade off being that final match scores would be blown out?

Didnt see anyone above 10 possies at half time and forgot to check at the end as most games were close, but ross said for realistic scores 5 mins quarters are the way to go. Assuming would be same for stats

Triangle (the tackle button) does all the fend offs and shruging, maybe even spinning? out of tackles.

The media has totally ****ed up the use of the words "possessions" and "disposals". I gauruntee that most will list "possessions" just as handballs + kicks. From just seeing the handball, kick and mark stats you can't tell how many possessions there have been though because picking the ball up off the ground would count as a possession too would it not? You may then get tackled before getting the ball off.

Quivorir, I don't think the triangle button will cause you to spin out of tackles. I can still dodge players though just by using the responsive movement of the analogue stick. I may struggle against good AI but it works against humans who are less "perfect".
