Nice piece of work by the way. I'm surprised WC have only finished on top 3 times.

Same with Collingwood. Puts their GF record into perspective.

It's interesting that the Bulldogs still aren't on the board, and pretty remarkable that Brisbane haven't managed it once, not even during their great run from 2001-2004.
Another interesting fact is North have won 4 minor premierships, but they didn't go on to win the flag in any of those 4 years.

They were not minor premiers in their flag years (1975, 1977, 1996, 1999).

I think the home/away disparity for non Vic's pushes them to the middle of the table. 10 or so "easier" home games, ten pretty tough games travelling, then some local clashes and one or two basket case away games.

West Coasts four minor premierships is pretty bloody impressive.

Yes, this prize has always eluded the Bulldogs as has the Rising Star award. As for Brisbane the minor premiership has never been won by either the Lions or the Bears, and the last time Fitzroy ever headed the ladder at season's end was way back in 1913.

That North Melbourne never been able to convert a minor premiership into an actual premiership is an interesting stat. Contrast this with Melbourne, where only once - 1958 - were the Demons unable to win the premiership when finishing first on the ladder.

Collingwood's 36-year minor premiership drought 1930-1966 is interesting, as the Magpies made plenty of Grand Finals for four premierships in the 1930s, 1950s and the start of the 1960s.

Have a fair few second places. Marginally lost in 1998 in the last round to the Kangaroos in front of 68k at the MCG to decide the minor premier. And were percent off Geelong in 1992 were probably the closest off the top.

1935 = Premiers
1936 = Premiers

1937 = Grand Final
1938 = Grand Final
1939 = Grand Final
1952 = Grand Final
1953 = Premiers
1955 = Grand Final
1956 = Grand Final
1958 = Premiers
1960 = Grand Final
1964 = Grand Final

12 Grand Finals (4 Premierships) despite not winning the Minor Premiership in that time period.

The 18 round season with a 12 team comp in the most part of the 60s made things very tight , and 1 cant recall a season where say the top side won 16 or 17 out of 18 games played .

And in a few years Rich in i think 66 and Haw in 64 might have been top or equal top with 3-4 weeks to go , and still won some closing games but lost an 8 pt game against a competitor and ended up getting squeezed out and finishing 5th .
