Re: Games from 1988, 1989 and first 15 rounds of 1990 were erased by Seven

As an Essendon fan I've just been able to walk into the Bombershop at Windy Hill and purchase any games that catch my eye there, and they have the facility where you can order games not in stock through them.

I suppose they get most of their stuff from the companies we've already been discussing, however..
Do they have anything not on Name A Game or lost therefrom? I’m thinking chiefly of the Round 9 game form 1996 against Melbourne where Essendon led with fewer goals at every change, ultimately winning 11-23 (89) to 12-5 (77). If I could get that game from them I would be willing to pay a considerable price.

Be aware that I may not be able to replace these games if you want a trade. Some would require very length postage indeed.

Someone mentioned the Melbourne v Essendon 1992 comeback game. I actually have the last quarter of this game on VHS. Channel 7 showed it but it was shot from a fancam in the stands. It has K-Rock commentary dubbed over the top. It seems like this maybe the only footage that exists from the game. I'm guessing EFC had someone shoot every game back in the day for their own uses.

It also has some classic post-game interviews with Teddy Whitten.

I have to get around to converting it.

I can't comment on name a game or sports delivered's puncutality, but I have heard from an AFL club that channel 7 in all their wisdom taped over alot of their archived games when they initially lost the TV rights. So anyone looking for games that either name a game or sports delivered don't stock (which is not alot prior to 1990) don't bother with Channel 7. If anyone can confirm this and if true I would love to know was the brainiac was that made the decision?

Taped over? The story I heard was that they chucked the whole lot apart from finals at the tip.

One game I really want that might be able to be found is Round 5, 1995, Essendon v St. Kilda, when Essendon won by 19 goals on the wettest football day in Melbourne’s history (I have Bureau of Meteorology data if anybody doubts it).

Not on Name A Game, but I have heard of pay-TV broadcasts and would really like to see how Essendon, against an admittedly very depleted Saints side, could kick so well in such heavy rain?

I know this is off topic but did you still want the 1971 Rugby League Grand Final between Souths & St George?

Was that at Princess Park? That was the FIRST game I ever went to if it was, I remember it rained but don't remember it being a huge downpour. I'd LOVE to see video of that as well, I remember Michael Long kicking a goal up my end vividly.

Re: Games from 1988, 1989 and first 15 rounds of 1990 were erased by Seven

One thing that interests me is the 1987 games. A lot of these were broadcast on the ABC, so hopefully they're in some archive somewhere.

As for other games - Channel 7 may have wiped the tapes from their Melbourne offices, but would they have done it in Perth? Would be interesting to see if some of those old Eagles games that people are chasing are in the Channel 7 WA archives.

Not the best quality - but not the worst by any stretch of the imagination.

Do you have the Round 1 from 1987 West Coast v Richmond? What is the quality like?

Same as mine, this is the only place I have seen it too. I guess I was curious if it's anywhere else as NAG don't have it.

I've bought a few but from the Essendon and Suns web site and have had a wait of about 2-3 weeks.
were any of the Essendon games from before 1996 and not on Name A Game? There isn’t really a Bombers win on my “most wanted” list apart from Round 18, 1986 when they crushed Hawthorn by 87 points in the last time the Hawks ever played at Windy Hill and perhaps their 140-point demolition of the Brisbane Bears in Round 9 of 1988, but I might find something else if given a look. Recently obtaining:
  1. Brisbane v Fitzroy from 1995 (one of my very much most wanted games)
  2. Fitzroy v West Coast from Round 19, 1994 (never imagined I’d find it, let alone in such good condition though with a few ads)
  3. Fitzroy v North Melbourne from Round 14 of 1993
makes me wonder what you might have??
