WA definitely an option although it’s seems A South Pacific Team aligned with the NTH Sydney Bears will be the next team in
Yeah it will be interesting you wonder how they would make that team work being based in Queensland but playing games in the pacific also what would north Sydney actually be getting out of the arrangement

They’ll play a handful of games at NS oval. Wear the bear colours. Have the feeder team in NSW Cup being the North Sydney Bears. Hearing home games at Port Moresby, Fiji and NS oval.
NRL will invest in Samoa and Tonga to build NRL fit stadiums

The NRL is not playing in Apia, Nuku'alofa, Suva, Port Moresby, North Sydney and Cairns. It will never happen

Beyond laughable
Do tell. They want the Pacific nations playing in the NRL. They currently don’t have NRL standard facilities in those countries so the talk is investment. Port Moresby is already hosting QLD Cup games so those games not played there will be at NS oval. It’s all you hear on radio here in Brisbane for the past few months off the back of the Dolphins success

It will and it’s closer than you think. They’re talking 2027.
They’re already playing QLD cup games in Port Moresby.
Firstly nobody gives a **** about the NRL in Fiji, Samoa or Tonga. Secondly you can’t have a team playing home games in 6 cities and 5 countries.

Thirdly the 10-15 hour flights to Samoa and Tonga is untenable

The thing is we won’t see as it won’t happen.
Yeah it will. The success of the Samoan and Tongan Rugby League Teams at international level is the cornerstone of what they want to do. Super rugby has shown that the travel isn’t an issue. The QLD Reds today are playing in Samoa so your travel excuse won’t fly.
Believe me when I say that talk here in Brisbane is that it is gathering serious momentum and they will move quickly as current teams are frustrated with the Bye.
Hence they will align with the North Sydney Bears

Yeah Moana play one game a year outside of Auckland and the game had to be scheduled for the bye weeks so both sides could have a break the week after.

Samoa and Tonga doing well at a league World Cup. With all 44 players from both nations born here or NZ and the other 4 moving here as small children and picking up league in Aus. RL is not cared about over there. It’s like throwing up Lebanon as a potential market

The NRL will invest in stadiums in Fiji and Samoa? they don't even put a cent towards stadiums in Australia, always have their hand out though.
They are banking on Pacific Sports Australia to pay for it. They will not be putting their hand in their pockets at all. They are only trying to cobble together this proposal to get government money

Exactly

They only way this happens is if there is a massive outlay by the federal government - which to be fair there may well be

What certainly isn't happening is the NRL "investing" in new stadiums or even significantly in the ongoing costs of such an arrangement. If it is looking like happening it is because the federal government will be covering everything, including the large amounts it already pays in elite pathways

A Pasifika PNG team based out of Australia is just not viable.

Who would want to play for the travelling circus? Nobody.

Who would support them? Nobody.

Union is played in the islands so teams like the Drua are set up to give Fijians a local team they can play for without having to leave home. Also it stops foreign nation’s poaching their players at international level.

Wait, is everything hanging on that V'Landys quote...."out of respect to the government"?

People aren't saying there is no chance of it happening. They are saying the NRL won't be funding it
Na Seedsfan said it wasn’t happening. I got my fundings crossed. I only just found that to back up what I was saying. However radio and press in Brisbane has been constant and adamant that it is gathering the most momentum. Including the link with the NS Bears.

I would worry about who is saying not how many are saying it

But Wa has been looked at closely before

Yes and the conditions were al lot more favourable then.
there’s a large expat kiwi and islander population over there

Who follow RU.

and plenty of corporate money through the mining

Which is already well attended.

it will probably take a new rectangular stadium though

No way in the world Jose.
They built a PRS and guess what - it turned out to be white elephant.

How can you even suggest that when people decry money for AFL stadiums in Tasmania and Canberra etc.

Don’t think there’s a market in SA . But Wa has been looked at closely before industry think it will happen eventually there’s a large expat kiwi and islander population over there and plenty of corporate money through the mining it will probably take a new rectangular stadium though
It's not the lack of a stadium, the current one is fine. It's that the NRL don't want to make a long term funding commitment. Or can't.

The Samoan economy is 1/20th the size of the NT economy. The Tongan economy is 1/40th. And the NT is nowhere near capable of hosting an NRL side.

With all extra travel, they'd be more expensive to run than any other NRL side.

The numbers just don't add up.

And 20% of their GDP is rugby income.

The ARLC is looking at it due to potential for government funding.

They will end up going with a second Kiwi side or a 5th Queensland side
