Club Legend
AFL Rebooted: Sydney
A new hypothetical league is forming, starting completely from scratch.
The first team in this new national league is fittingly based in the capital of the first state - Sydney.
The first step in forming the identity of this team is to select a name and/or mascot. See below for the various options. Alternatively, nominate your own idea, but remember to give a reason.
Following the voting process, people will be able to design a kit for the chosen name.
Blues
Blue is both the NSW state colour, and a reference to the Blue Mountains. However, it also already the nickname of both the NSW state cricket team and NSW rugby league team.
Kookaburras
NSW State Bird
Lions
A lion is featured on both NSW Coat of Arms and the State Flag.
Platypi
NSW state animal. However, in plural form, it may be too awkward for a team nickname.
Rangers
The 'Rangers' nickname represents both the Blue Mountains (mountain ranges) and Bushrangers such as Captain Thunderbolt.
Serpents
A serpent is featured on the Sydney Coat of Arms.
Sirens
In 1929, the novelist Arthur Henry Adams called Sydney the "Siren City of the South"; also, in Greek mythology, Sirens were seductresses who lured sailors with their enchanting songs, not unlike singers at the Sydney Opera House. However, it is a somewhat feminine nickname.
Waratahs
NSW State Flower. However, it is also already the nickname of the NSW rugby union team. Also, a flower is not a very aggressive mascot.
Whales
Wales (as in New South) and Whales are synonyms.
