I’m prob old school, but there’s something special to me wearing 23 and knowing it could simultaneously display my love for guys like Weddle, Buddy and Derm all at once.
I don't think Jason Bennett and Anthony Hudson need help. Some of those Vic commentators may start getting the Freos player names right.
Wow I'm suprised.AFL rejects Giants' push for return of player names on jumpers
GWS wanted player names emblazoned on the back of their jumpers to help build connection with fanswww.afl.com.au
The Giants made an official submission to place player names on their guernseys. It’s said to have only been supported by a few other clubs, with the league rejecting the proposal based largely on a desire for uniformity across all clubs.
I think they’ve got it right. When they tried it it just looked off… if it was a name and a number it might be okay, but Sponsor - [Club acronym for some] - Name - Number - Sponsor just looked way too busy.

That's what the massive numbers and the footy record / AFL app / Club app are for.Yes, because helping new AFL fans by making it easier for them to learn the names of the players is against tradition. Should expect people who are curious about learning more of the game to simply know more, and if they don't well **** them.
They're Sandgropers and you know it!James Brayshaw left WA in 1991.

Because they would be illegible. People are too far away from the action for it to be usable. Can you give a reason why we can't also incorporate names? Most other major sports on the planet manages to do it despite also having the player information accessible on the internet?
It's backwards thinking that the game can't get with modern times.

Can also be done more neatly when placed below the number. It's doable... Here's SGA's from the NBA...
