Full member upgrade offered !
I joined in 2009, and was 1,950 at the start of this year.

An end of an era after starting this thread 5 years ago. Although I still have my son and daughter on the wait list, so I'll continue to update the OP with their numbers.

Anyone got a mid year upgrade notice yet?
Yep.... Woo hoo Just got mine today and upgraded to Full straight away... I think I was in the 2000's at the start of this year so pretty happy.
Can someone tell me are full members only guaranteed at GF ticket if your side is competing or is it that I can buy a gf ticket regardless of who plays.. What are the chances of getting a gf ticket if my side isn't competing and I have the AFL full member club support package.

You're pretty much guaranteed a seat regardless of which side is playing (besides possibly Richmond and Collingwood). All you have to do is turn up on time when tickets go on sale. However, you might not seats that are as good if your side was playing. So, all in all. Pretty much guaranteed.

I went last year and got lvl 2 on the 50m line. My team was defiantly not in it

Awesome... Can tickets be bought online for the GF or do you actually have to line up?

Online, phone and at outlets. A set number of tickets of similar seat quality is held for each method, however online has the most tickets allocated. I have never understood why people line up or wait on hold on the phone.

Some people still like the old school queuing experience. Not me.

Tickets go on sale first for full members with competing club support - then other full members can buy the following day. Plenty of seats even if high club support in the AFL members section. Last time I went was 2011 - booked for Collingwood family on the Sunday, then got my ticket, also good seat on L1, on Monday. Same in 2010 X 2.

I think only a maximum of 70% of tickets go on sale for members with club support, so there's guaranteed to be some left over for other full members.

Called the AFL on Tuesday to get my wait list number for Gold, joined at the end of 2008 season. I'm currently about 2800, at the end of this year that'll be under 100 and they said I'll get offered Gold this time next year.

2700 upgrades. Wowee.

You would hope that there is enough seats for every single gold member to attend if they wish to.

If you were to join now, how many years would it take to become a full member?

Tough to say. Depends on how many people dont choose to upgrade or dont renew their membership. If MCG tenants drop off in performance then in theory less people will renew.

Is there a cost to upgrade to gold? Once off fee?

You get offered mid season.
You have to pay the difference b/w silver and Full which is around $150 I think to upgrade or you can decline.
Once you have paid the difference, they then send you a new card (Full Member one) and cancel your silver.
The following year you just get invoiced for the price of full membership.
You can then go to Prelim and Grand Final.
I got 5 upgrades last year (whole family).
No prelim in Melbourne though lol
Bought 5 Grand Final tickets though without a problem - seats right on the wing !

What did you pay for GF tickets as a Gold member? I've never been able to work it out.

Would the prelims be free? I seem to remember they were priced at $150ish last year when announced (obviously before the reality that there were no prelims in Melbourne.)

Silver pay guest pass price, which is about $150. For full members they're like the other finals.

huh ?
Unless things have changed recently even full members pay over $100 for a grand final ticket. It is not the same conditions as the finals leading up to it.
I meant prelims.

Grand Final ticket was around $170-80 I think. All I know is that it does not cost more that $200.
You can scan in for free in all games first 3 weeks if they have not been sold out.
You usually get designated areas up the top.
Last year there were no prelims in Melbourne.
If you are a full member the price for reservation for prelim was around $18 I think 2 years ago.
That's the advantage of AFL Membership.
The club members get shafted with finals ticket prices.
You can still go as a silver member if the Prelim was not sold out but at guest prices which are ridiculous.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
I'm not on here that regularly but will get back to you.
I've been to every GF since 2007 (using friend's memberships) that had full and didn't want to go.
Don't have to rely one anyone now :)
