Yep. Cos Nick diving once makes up for all the times hes had his arms chopped, pushed in the back, completely and utterly smashed by the defender for no free kick.
When did he do this? Surely you're not suggesting the Preliminary Final incident with Lake? Umpire McInernay's decision was fully reviewed and cleared by the Umpire's Dept - and being the best ranked umpire for the 2009 season, I'm sure he went on to do a good job in the GF......what was that, he was dropped for the GF? But he made no errors in the PF???

Common sense is not all that common unfortunately. If common sense was used in dealing with the increasingly prevalent situation of players who exaggerate minimal contact to try and lure an unwarranted free kick from the umpires, there would be no need for such a rule to be introduced. But because the AFL has let this practice fester to the point of being a major issue that all clubs attempt to exploit, they feel the need to introduce some sort of arbitrary rule to counter the practice. Good luck to the umpires to try and interpret degrees of exaggeration in the heat of the moment - they have miserably failed to successfully identify this in the past.
