I’m wondering whether there is more to it. I don’t know much about him but he averaged close to two goals a game this year as a pressure forward.
There probably is.

Could they be making way for somebody else? Do they have an embarrassment of riches already in that part of the ground? I don't know enough about them. It does seem a bit odd that they'd release him rather than try and facilitate a trade.

There was something about him having a back ended contract iirc, due to be paid somewhere around $1.8m over the next 2 years and not sounding like the suns are prepared to help pay some of that. That may make some clubs reluctant I think it put the Pies off

Why would they delist Rosas if he is any good?

List spots, role and a bit of money?

They’ve had back to back first round small forwards out of the academy and now Noble and Rioli want to go up there, it might just be a squeeze.

Love Merrett, but he needs to stay the f out of it.

If the reporting is true, do not like the fact he is getting involved in the Laverde & Stringer issues.

Was wondering the same. Would seem he has to be in the dog house if they are willing to just release him.

Hello fishy fishy 😛
Click bait catches another one.

Hardwick probably realized Rosas and Luko don't have what it takes to win how he wants them to win, he knows what being soft and lazy looks like and instead of trying to fix that he's booting them out, we'd try fix them for years and get nowhere.
Gold Coast have the luxury to be expending players like Rosas and Luko because they have a ton of talent coming through.

Lombard played in the VFL premiership last year.
We can't even delist Menzie. That should tell you the gulf in talent between the two lists.

True. But we need to be less cowardly and turn over players more aggressively, we're scared because we don't know who can/will replace our average players, so we stick with the average players, who know how to win 11 games and finish 11th, yay.

Kelly, Weideman and Goldstein are already gone, from a club who aren't scared to go backwards.

Eh you still need mature bodies. Until this year Kelly had been doing what we needed from him whilst we've still been turning over the list.

We're already looking to fill at least 5 spots, with 1 first rounder and 1 Kako. Chances are a couple more players will go, and we'll be hoping some guys taken at the ass-end of the draft can make it, where the odds are something like only 1 in 10 will.

Need them for what? Finishing 11th? I'd be happy to have 10 blokes train with us all off season and then take 4 as SSP selections in February next year.

Setting standards, depth, protecting the kids from being smashed from pillar to post all season destroying confidence and picking up injuries etc etc.

Obviously if you're in favour of the scorched earth rebuild pathway you wouldn't see any value in most of that stuff, but it's pretty clear the club does. Even North under Clarkson has brought in some mature bodies to set standards and help provide guidance.

Kelly is no star, but if there's one thing he traditionally did it was train, prepare and compete to the best of his ability every single week. That's something far too few players at EFC can say.

You do not build anything from doing that. A guy like Menzie may have limitations but the young guys know they have to trade and prepare at 100%.
Dismiss it if you want but that is how it is.

We've been doing this for years and it never helps, all these blokes do is keep us where we are, mid table.

I'm not talking about Menzie, I'm happy to give him his chance, I'm talking about Kelly and Weideman. Open up the list spots and cast the net far and wide, chances are we find very little but the 5% chance we do is worth the risk for me.

Geelong and Sydney have also done it for years and basically remain perennially competitive. IMO there's something to be said for building a culture of competitiveness, especially for a club that's been mired in mediocrity and has a history in the playing group(s) of just giving up when it all gets a bit hard. Turning over 5 - 7 list spots with the draft hand we have is already pretty substantial. IMO it's not holding on to a guy like Kelly that's been holding us back, there's a lot more, a lot deeper, than that.

Melbourne did it pretty successfully under Roos as well, brought in hardworking competitors via trade and draft until the culture had turned, they now appear to be struggling to hang on to it. Hawthorn didn't have to do it with their rebuild, they already had guys like Bruest and Gunston on the list that could help bridge that past successful group with a new cohort.

As I said though, if your philosophy is for a scorched earth rebuild then you're going to be viewing it differently.

"mired in mediocrity" That's Kelly and Weideman, they are this, they will be mediocre in 2025, they train hard and are nice to the coach, who cares?

Scorched earth has not won a premiership either. In fact sides that have done it have stated to lose the early players before they play in a decent side.
The way to go is actually move them on in groups of four or five over a few years.

Did I miss the announcement that they have signed?

Delisting Kelly and Weideman is not scorched earth. Scorched earth is changing core players like Parish, McGrath and Redman, we won't do that.

Nah but they weren't in the first round of delistings so they must have a new deal.
