Doubt he's keen on moving interstate.
Agree. But if no one else comes to the table, I wonder if he does it anyway.

Swans don’t have a second rounder. Maybe we can upgrade our pick 28 with their pick 20?

I'd ask for their F2 and 56, citing that it's likely to be a late second next year.
56 probably comes in a bit too with other bids.

Probably better to go F2 + Jake for F1

Given expected finishing positions that feels fair. But obviously has a big upside for Essendon if the swans get overtaken by teams with an easier draw and or Essendon are better then expected

It’s a bit early to be drunk already…
Very clever bro. Feel like any of our forwards will be better without probably the most selfish player in the comp whos only trick is to shrug tackles and kick goals but is now unable to do either very well. It's tiresome to watch. Tigers had a bunch of role players in the forwardline. Guelfi does the 1%ers. Sure he's not elite but I rate him given the fact it's a team game.

People get really seduced by the handful of games Guelf plays like a proper pressure small. His defensive stats are not that much different to Stringers but everyone thinks stringer is lazy and Guelfi is one of our best defensive forwards.
Ignoring the fact its guelfis role to be a pressure small and stringers role to be a goal kicking fwd with cameos at centre bounces, these are how their stats compare for the defensive side of the game:
Stringer 2.5 Tackles, 14.9 pressure acts, 1.2 tackles inside 50
Guelfi 3.5 tackles, 15.7 pressure acts, 1.5 tackles inside 50

Then compare Guelfi to someone like McCreery at the pies, 4.9 tackles, 20.1 pressure acts, 1.6 tackles inside 50.

This isnt having a go at Guelf, I think he is the best option we have on list for the defensive small forward role which unfortunately isnt saying much.
But my main issue is that Stringer is now being targeted by media outlets and some fans for his supposed lack of defensive efforts.
This ignores what role he has been asked to play by the coaching team (what blame do they shoulder for overusing the trump card of "throw stringer in the middle?) and our poor list balance where we have a slew of small forwards that are either too slow or too skinny to play the role of defensive pressure forward.
The thing I learned with Guelf this year is he can play an excellent role tagging the oppo's offensive backman. I think that suits him well and we should utilise that more often.

I wouldn't be upset about keeping Stringer, but even as an offensive player he does have a tendency to go missing. He also seems not to have been anywhere near as impactful in the middle as he was from 21-23. I'm happy to relinquish him at this stage/age and make room for Kako and Caddy to do more.

“Players including Malcolm Rosas basically got told: ‘You come back in elite shape, or go and play with someone else’. Malcolm thought: ‘OK, I’ll go and play with someone else’. Found some suitors, then Gold Coast said: ‘No, you’re playing with us again’. It was a shot across the bows.

Hmm

We've seen in quite a few games how tagging the best offensive backmen can work; Sicily was effectively tagged out, Zorko for most of the game too.

Clubs get a massive amount of drive off the HBF in the modern game, Gavin Wanganeen was really ahead of his time.

Swans keen on Jake
Heard Sam Edmond mention this on trade radio. It was more of an opinion.

“What I can tell you is it’s not Collingwood, and it won’t be Collingwood,” Edmund reported.

“We can put a line through Stringer joining the Pies — that narrative can be ended.”

Edmund said Sydney was “most likely” to trade for the 12-year veteran, who “wants (a) two-year deal”.

“I think, as we sit here now, there is a chance it could be Sydney,” he said.

“In fact, I’d have them as the most likely at the moment but given they’re in the thick of it all (the premiership race), that plays a part, too.

“(There is) plenty to work through here. I’m not saying he’s definitely going to Sydney, but I’d just have them right there at the front of proceedings for Jake Stringer.”

If you listen to trade radio on the AFL site Purple still thinks Collingwood are in the mix and Cal did not really make a case to argue they are not. Just mentioned we wanted points for the Kako bid.

Sam did mention that Stringer would be on much more than $400k if he stayed. That figure is wrong.

am i the only one that sees we need a rebuild?

stringer would easily get better delivery into the ff50 at the swans.

also, that article written yesterday about Merrett, so that was basically a complete fabrication??

Stringer gets the delivery he asks for by standing still and waving on top of his head. You can have zach merrett putting the ball i50 and it doesn't really matter.

I think a lot of people see it, but aren't willing to make the actual hard choices to expedite it.

This is exactly the reason is pick Guelf over Stringer when selecting a best 22. This is how you win games nowadays. Maybe Guelf can be replaced by someone better sure but we definitely ain't winning anything playing Stringer and 2mp they are far too unreliable

Kicking goals does seem to be his main responsibility. Also it is literally how you win games - by kicking more than the oppo.

For a guy who is selfish:
  • He takes the hard shots but still has a high quality conversion (kicked 43.25)
  • Also delivered healthy level of goal assists (equal 4th at Essendon)
  • Played out of position for the team by running through the middle to support lack of mid field size - hopefully this finishes and he can focus more on F50 work

If watching someone shrug tackles and kick goals is tiresome, maybe you’re watching the wrong game.

I think a lot of people have that thought but the disagreement tends to be about what’s the best way to do it.

Is it a scortched earth trade everyone north style rebuild.

Is it building depth and trying to win as many games as possible to become a free agent destination while having the assets to spend to get them.

Is it that We’ve actually been rebuilding at the top of the draft for a while. Found a few good players around pick 10 and our failures are more to do with list balance/composition than overall talent.

Tricky one to answer and there will be lots of different oppinions.

Personally I’m more on the optimistic side of things. But understand the reasons for pessimism

Sounds like an absolute gun. Weird we are only offering him one year at 400k and nobody is jumping out of their skin to offer him a deal. He's told the players he's played his last game with the Don's. Doubt he will be focusing on anything related to his next year but good luck
