No offence to them 376, but neither Mills or baliey would make any state league midfield, big differance.
Anyone know wots happening on the Gold Coast? Surfers built a foundation around youth last year and won a few at the end. Cooly looked pretty young as well. Have they recruited experience to compliment this?
Palmie wouldnt be happy with the way they exited the finals and if O'brien coaching again i'de expect them to be up there again. Burleigh were the pick of them all and if they'd been able to take their chances in the prelim against Noosa, they would have beat them. They are well coached and play genuine team 1st footy. They did however have a few older blokes who would be close to the end of their careers.
Agree sweetie, im sure Buckley would trade all individual honours 4 a flag.

Buckley got his premiership medal as assistant coach.

Agree burleigh looked dangerous at years end, had lots of injury problems, Fletcher almost took them into the GF this year & had LOBB been on the ground more probably would have made up the 4 point end result.

Springwood where ferocious at home near years end and took it up to most teams, fast and young team.

Grange will probably move further up the ladder, Marto would drag a few key recruits in the door.

Is forbes going around at sandgate again?

Draft draw has the comp starting 9th April - Ending 13th August, 2 byes as stated prior. Late start and early finish, why not play 18 rounds!

I didn't realise that only juniors wanting to be drafted played state league. Makes sense, seeing as so many people are drafted from the state league and everything.

I am sure if Aspley was a top 5 team last year they probably would have considered it, but seeing as Noosa won a flag, makes sense to drive an hour up the road to play in a team almost gauranteed to play finals, in a division they are well capable of playing, instead of driving an hour down the road, and playing in a division that would test them, in a team that might struggle in 2011. Especially for Mills, who had one of his worst season's last year, he would have to work extra hard to play seniors.

Brendan Fevola was reportadly in Nambour on Monday. Maybe Ben Stanley is talking to him?
 
Aspley tried to recruit every onballer from the pineapple cup didnt they, Spoke to the top 6 at Noosa, Why aim at DIV 2 players to build a competitive 1st DIV side.

However they did secure Brain (Unlikly to last there)
 
too late for pomona. sunshine coast super rules have already signed him. he might get a kick in that league.

No one knows much about him, he's a complete mystery. Some say he sleep's in cave and hibernates in winter & catches his food with his hands......
 
Season 2011... a vastly different setup to last year.. Welcome back the maggies and a potentially stronger noosa..

Lucas Matthews onboard for another year?
What has brought Hicks back to the club? Retained L.Bauer?

M.Rogers a big loss from grange, a few more following the the exodus over recent years.. Will the recruits cover this?

A.Pianta still at Burliegh?, they retained a strong list, and added with their usual interstate fly-ins?

Springwood's massive numbers include the mtgravatt pickups from last year, or are they disappearing?

Mayne to suffer dramatically without 'the rock' C.Brown

Surfers and PBC very quiet on the recruiting , O'Brien to get the winning feeling back?

Who is coaching the Magpies this year?

Is Long stilling having a run around? Will the Hawks be up and abouts this season, or drop off the pace.

Never even heard of this lobb bloke, even at Burleigh.....

Mayne will miss Brown, in their situation they cant afford to lose players of his quality and good bloke.
Last years reserves coach is coaching magpies, surely their better players have filtered out to Div 1 sidse and they will lose theier best under 23 players to the lions most weeks, may struggle if this the case.
White hasnt gone anywhere, still at Maroochydore.

Brown to morningside great pick up, he'll play good footy in div 1, agree huge loss for Mayne.

Matthews may need to step aside for some younger talent coming through, I think he's pushing 40 now? certiainly runs like it...

my picks for the year to come.....

-Frew to kick 100 goals (noosa)
-a Gold coast coach to leave mid season
-Mayne to win first 2 games
-Magpies to lose first 2 games
-Fevola to sign with southport
-cooly top of the ladder after round 5
- Brain return to noosa

Final five- Burleigh, Noosa, PBC, Grange, Sandgate
Bottom six - Surfers, Springwood, magpies, mayne, maroochy, cooly

Noosa under 18's premiers.....

firstly, you are a typical noosa supporter if you think anyone from noosa will kick 100 goals this season.

magpies will lose first 4 champ. they have all away games first 3, MNS, PBC and Burleigh, then there best hope is Noosa at home in week 4.

Fev will move back to Melbourne to be with his family if he is sacked.

How will Cooly be top of the table after 5 weeks, then finish in the bottom 6?

Grange won't play finals, from what I am hearing they have lost more than they have gained, and they didn't play finals last year.

no disrespect to mills and bailey, but they would not get a game in aspley seniors midfield. the noosa players approached aspley, with lucas matthews organising it. they were lucas, page , brain and brewer and i think reynolds. have you considered aspley maybe looking building some depth with so many young kids in the squad
 
The aspley sporting club could of easily built a side around a key ruckman, 2 gun onballers and two solid flankers.. Why did only one sign?

Bailey has done nothing in the pineapple cup, apart from be a solid contributor to an overall under-achieving side? Mills has his top 3 games here and there, depending on his interest.. Whats the incentive of an hour drive to the sportos nest if he's not up to the midfield spot in your eyes??

Plus aspley is unlikely by all reports to be involved in the future higher tiers of the east coast football growth.... Whereas growing the junior depth allows for good stead in the higher brisbane comp on a points system??

frew, who the fk is frew? You must mean Hicks. These frew blokes are obviously mates of yours if you're on his bandwagon too.. Yeronga were below average in 10' , need 6 pineapple cup walk ups to even be competitive. Club with great history tho.

Cooly and surfers to be bottom dwellers.. good stir up on the magpies.. did they retain V.Pope?

Who did grange lose from the season gone apart from the champion Rogers?

How'd the swamp handle the recent rain? Any sure footing left up there?
 
Couple of ladder predictions floating around, figure I'll give it a crack.

1. Noosa- Only lost 3 games all year, lost Reynolds and Brain who were huge big game players, but good depth. Matthews getting older, Brauer a gun, but midfield depth hurt by losing those two. Pick ups all seem like they will add depth as opposed to star power. Still the benchmark but.
2. Sandgate- Rob Lucas retiring hurts defence and experience, but not irreplacable. Dont seem to have lost to many, and if Forbes, Walker, Ben Drew and Fabian all stay fit are as good as any in comp. Dickfos going again, can they send him off a with a flag?
3. PBC- Should have good core and arguably best midfield with Horn, Dyson, Bloom etc. Plus top ruckman in Ianson. O'Brien coaching again and sure to want to make up for last years early finals exit. Plus hard to beat at home.
4.Burleigh- Could finish from 4th any where up. Few of their better players getting older, and Pianta retiring is a loss. But if they keep same list and add a few like they seem to each year, could mirror Sandgates improvement this year.
5. Magpies- Coming back from top level should see them have at least a dozen who will be exellent in this comp. Lions thing will make them a week by week proposition. And if they get injuries to key players, plus losing 5 to lions, could struggle at times. Other weeks if all fit and available will be tough, especially at Chelmer.

6.Springwood- Maybe dreaming with this, but they werre much improved last year and pushed most sides. Young team who have played together for a while now and if they can add 4 or 5 solid seniors, might surprise a few.
7. Grange- New coach, should attract some new players. I think they will improve, but will depend if their best players all stay on board.
8. Surfers- Another team rebuilding with young guys, still have some quality player in Green and Fenton, but may lack depth.
9. Maroochy- Bit of an unknown but Im goin off the loses posted on here, and the White potential loss. If he stays they are 7 goals better. Is Ben Matthews playing again, and will knees hold up. Take out Bailey and Mills and they could lose big chunk of their key players. Might be a little like surfers were this year after making prelim year before and having to rebuild after losing players.
10. Cooly- Very young last year and copped some floggings, rebuilding.
11. Mayne- New coach might mean new game style which cant hurt, but loss of Brown, Falconer, L Ferguson hurts them. Need to recruit well to avoid spoon, hopefully they do.

Im just a silly old man and you may think they arent in right order, happy for critics to have a crack at a list though. If they would put a draw up might impact ladder to, depending on who gets to play who once or twice.

Reckon thats a pretty good assesment Sweetie, although think your being a bit generous to Whitey saying they are a 7 goal better side with him in it. Also Fenton for Surfers has his best footy behind him, but needed to help develop the kids.

Yeah, good point & fair call, For the record though Paige and Brauer where approched not long after the GF by Aspley, Both of them and Matthews had already decided to stick together and when Fletcher was reappointed at Noosa they commited for another year.

Aspley, Under a full season with Russel Evans will be a top 5 club.

Without a couple of state league quality recruits Aspley will not be a top 5 side, even if they got McHale, Sheedy, Malthouse and Matthews in the coaches box
