AFL's Fastest Player (2008)

As several people have mentioned, there are different kinds of quick.

I remember a pre-draft description of Cotchin saying he was quick between the ears, and that gave him a step or two before anyone else moved/reacted, giving him time to dispose of it, but he'd get mowed down over 20 meters.

20m - A number of players.

100 - Wocjinski, Lovett, Davey brothers

400 - No idea. It's suited to guys like a Franklin, Richo, Reiwoldt etc but you really don't know until it's actually run.

I believe Pearce has the record for 60m (not sure if our krak broke that, but i don't think he did)

Also believe that Riewoldt has the record over 400m

As for 100m, I'm not sure who holds the current afl record for that, but I think shaun burgoyne has it at port

edit: I may be wrong about pearce with 60m, it might be 20 m instead... i just know that he has an official afl record for <100m sprint

Lids smoked Alwayn davey against essendon in 05, is definately in the top 3 in the comp 4 speed. how can you say fev when he had a big handicap over foley in the 06 grand final sprint and foley almost ran him down? Lids won off scratch in 05.

Not sure how you can judge the quickness of players over 400 metres on-field when the ground is around 150-200 metres?

Anyway:

20m -
On-field: Andrew Lovett
Track: Many Players. Quickest i can find is Jarrod Atkinson at 2.73. I'm sure some would go quicker not sure who though.

100m -
On-field: Monica Wonjinski
Track: Clint Benjamin, Kane Tenace

400m -
On-field: No idea
Track: Brett Deledio, Sean Rusling, Andrew Walker

Should have shown up for this then:

Are you stupid???!!! He's a footballer why the ____ would he waste his time competing in something he doesn't do. What a ridiculous statement. I know a guy called Aaron Rouge-Serret and he runs 10.36 seconds for the 100 metre and he is only 20 years old and he's not in that list...you know why smarty pants?? Because he DIDN'T FREAKING COMPETE!!!!!

Yeah when you think about the original OP it all means little when we start to talk in a straight line. I think about it this way. Under pressure with the ball I want no-one else but Judd. He evades the tackle, changes direction and leaves a pack like no other.

running to a free ball and picking it up on the run I want Lovett. Never have I seen someone pick a ball up at pace as good as him and run with the ball. He seems to bounce with ease and carry the ball at blistering pace. I can't remember him getting run down from behind ever.

Then there is the player who can run through traffic and sell the dummie. Changing line at the blink of an eye. Many players are great at this. The Davey brothers, Rioli, damn heaps. Normally these players are lighter frame and therefore have the edge.

If you are really talking pure running ability then who knows. I would have to give the nod to a complete POWER sprinter and pick Fevola over 100. Shorter distances are too hard to say. Over 400 then probably Franklin he never really looks threatened at that distance. He just bounds up the ground and back and no defender seems to be able to stay with him.

According to the Collingwood magazine, In Black and White, Rusling ran 10.6 seconds for the 100 metres when training as a sprinter with the SA Institute of Sport while still at school.

Mild over reaction perhaps??? Did he insult yo' mama?

As stated, Pearce holds the draft camp 20m record of 2.79 seconds

quote]
Jarryd Atkinson broke the record at Essendon for 20m with 2.73. The previous record of 2.75 was held jointly by Coutney Dempsey, Alwyn Davey and Leroy Jetta. Lovett also has done 2.7something.
(I'm sure Pearce would also be faster than 2.79 now.)
Does anybody have any figures on anybody else.

20 Meter: Any of these could win....Deledio, Pearce, The Daveys,Judd

100 Meter: Only this guy could win... WOJO!!!!

400 Meter: It could be anyone really...but you would have to say that AFL footballers are pretty fit and could sustain a decent speed for a lot longer than 100 meters....SO......WOJO again!!!

Seriously that guy has been the quickest in the comp for 2 years,,,,
