What happened with her over the last two years?
Depends who you listen to, but the Suns didn't treat the Tasmanians very well and I believe that took its toll

Former captain Alicia Eva has re-signed with the GIANTS.

Eva, one of the most integral figures of the women’s game, will remain a GIANT for an eighth season after putting pen to paper on a new one-year deal for the 2024 NAB AFLW season.

The 32-year-old is coming off another strong season in orange and charcoal, averaging 17 disposals and 3.3 tackles per game to once again finish inside the top 10 of the Gabrielle Trainor Medal.

GIANTS Executive General Manager - Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, said the club is thrilled to secure Eva’s services for another year.

“Alicia continues to be one of our best performers and after another strong season in 2023 we are excited about what 2024 will bring. While Alicia’s guidance will continue to remain pivotal in nurturing our large number of emerging leaders, I can’t wait to see what she can produce on the field with footy as her main focus in 2024.”

Yeehaa!

I love my Lionesses but the girls both like making it to a handful of AFLW games - the youngest one is always "when are the girls playing", the eldest wants to know what it's going to take to make the Giants academy. This is a game changer for the NSW clubs.

Tassie Speedsters Sign On

Young duo Meghan Gaffney and Madison Brazendale have both signed new deals with the GIANTS.

Talented Tasmanian speedsters Meghan Gaffney and Madison Brazendale have both signed one-year contract extensions to remain with the GIANTS. Drafted just nine picks apart in the 2022 AFLW Draft, the Tassie duo have established themselves as key pieces of the club’s future following several strong performances in orange and charcoal.

Gaffney’s signature comes as the she prepares to make her official return to the field this upcoming AFLW season after missing the entire 2023 campaign with a ruptured ACL suffered on the eve of last season. Short in stature but full of grit, the 21-year-old utility’s pace and her hunt for the footy make her a valuable asset to Cam Bernasconi's side this upcoming AFLW season. Originally missing out on the 2021 AFLW Draft, Gaffney’s resilience paid off when she was selected by the GIANTS with pick 66 in the 2022 AFLW Draft where she went on to play six games in her debut season before her unfortunate injury.

Meanwhile, fellow Tassie speedster Brazendale has been rewarded with another year on her contract following a strong start to her AFLW career over the past two seasons. Taken with pick 75 soon after Gaffney in the 2022 draft, Brazendale made an immediate impact at the GIANTS to win the club’s 2022 Rising Star award for her brilliant debut season. One of the club’s best endurance athletes following a stellar junior athletics career, Brazendale is raring to go on the wing for the GIANTS this upcoming AFLW season after an ankle injury restricted her to just three games last year.

GIANTS Executive General Manager - Football Strategy and Operations, Briana Harvey, said the club is thrilled to have the young duo recommit to the club. “We love what Madi and Meghan bring to the group and it’s exciting to have them recommit up until the end of the 2025 AFLW season,” Harvey said. “They both bring exceptional talent and qualities that help them excel at the elite level, as well as being wonderful young individuals who contribute to the fantastic culture we've built at the GIANTS. It’s a testament to our players and coaching staff that we continue to see players recommit to the club and we’re thrilled to have Meghan and Madi remain onboard as we look forward to an exciting future for the GIANTS.”

The GIANTS will kickstart their 2024 AFLW campaign with an exciting opening round clash with the Western Bulldogs in Canberra on Saturday, August 31.
