Why can Byron's daughter Lakeesha play for Port? A very lenient father- daughter rule in AFLW compared to the AFL's father-son 100 game rule.

From June 2016 story when first 8 AFLW licenees were approved.

Lethlean confirmed there would be a father-daughter rule enabling daughters of past players to go to their former club, with only one AFL game needed to have been played.

Great news! Do Mark Conway, Paul Geister or Steve Brosnan have daughters that are any good at footy?

I was thinking more the Port guys from the early days in the AFL that played both SANFL and AFL that didn't rack up many games in the AFL but helped justify us getting into the AFL eg - Nigel Fiegert, Stephen Carter, Paul Evans, Tom Carr, David Brown, Cain Ackland, Shane Bond, Daryl Poole etc can still maintain the family link to Port if their girls are good enough, compared to if their sons were, but would have to go thru the lottery of the draft.

The others are just nice bonuses.

Nigel's daughter Marlie has been involved with the NGA already:

This was included in an email from Mr Richo today:

AFLW – we’re in for Season7, and already we’re 6th on the AFLW membership table and sold out in terms of our key partnership positions. An historic moment for our club when our AFLW team runs out for their first official game in about 12 months!

Don't know if we've slipped from 6th, but we're in the top half...

This season's current figure of 33,577 is inclusive of all 18 clubs, with Sydney, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Essendon introducing AFLW membership ahead of their entry in 2023.The previous record was set in the 2021 season, with 25,782 fans registering across 14 clubs.

(so current average is about 1,850 over 18 clubs and last year over 14 was about 1,840. Sydney and Port providing 5.5k of the 7.8k increase. You would think Essendon and Hawthorn have sold 1k memberships each)

Incredibly, Sydney currently has the most members with 3,501 signed up, despite being a year away from its first AFLW match.

Port Adelaide has also seen strong support (1,957), ranking in the top half of club memberships.

Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hawthorn, Melbourne, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Sydney have all broken their club records, with the Roos also passing the 2,000-mark for the first time.
